OLD AND NEW COMPARED

Compare the prototype as shown in pic 7 with a photo of a production Pantah engine:

the different path followed by the belt is evident. Note also the striking similarity of most other features. The bolt right behind the central pulley on the prototype is an oil filler cap: in fact it's the same brass cap with allen head that was used on bevel engines. It probably has "USARE OLIO AGIP F1" engraved. There's no other oil filler visible on the earlier "rough" prototype, while the "Koln" bike has the same plastic cap that will be carried on to production, although in a different position (which luckily has been changed, to save a lot of motorcyclists' left shins). Note also the "bulge" on the right side engine cover, right below the central pulley, probably to accomodate the belt which is wider than the sprocket. I didn't notice this detail until someone pointed it out in a contest entry.
