Piazza Mattei 10 - Residence of the Swedish Ambassador to the Holy See

The residence consists of an appartment on the second floor - the Piano Nobile - of a 16th century house - Palazzo Costaguti - in the historical centre of Rome.

Piazza Mattei is on the road along which in ancient times the roman generals celebrated their victories - triumphs. It went to the present Piazza dei Fiori , past Rome's famous three theatres (Pompeius, Balbo and Marcellus), the Circus Maximus and the Forum Romanum before finally reaching the Capitol Hill.

On the Piazza there is a famous fountain, Fontana delle Tartarughe, which was designed by Giacomo della Porta and built in 1581.

The Costaguti Palace represents an interesting link between Sweden and the Vatican inasmuch as an owner of the Palace - Cardinal Costaguti - organized the papal reception of the Swedish Queen Kristina when she arrived in Rome in 1653. The Queen is even said to have visited the house on a couple of occasions.
