The essay, in Italian, deals with the mirror both as an object front cover of the bookand a concept inside Isherwood’s narrative production. From the very first novels up to the more mature and Vedanta connected work, the image of the mirror plays a substantial part in Isherwood’s narrative scheme. Not always physically present, the mirror is often evoked as and substituted by the figure of the double, either as twin brothers or as two parts of the same personality which, separated and conflictual at first, finally reunite under the light of a strong and deep spiritual experience.
This essay is a sort of first stage of my study of Isherwood’s relation with mirrors, reflexions and speculations. The essay in English, due to be published soon, brings substantial new material and widens the range of considerations emerging from this subtle but always present relation.
