The Antiquarium was inaugurated
in summer 1997, in Palazzo Bellacera. Restoration works in the
Palazzo left unchanged the original characteristics. In fact the
barrel and the cross vaults, the pointed arch and the roofs, which
have been paved with ceramic tiles with geometrical and floral
colored patterns. The original tiles have been restaured and the
others were built on the originals. The Palazzo was built in xvi
century and it is a very important cultural-historic-artistic
element, as, in function of the feud which it was built for, it
gave the birth and the development of the village of Comitini.
The Antiquarium is located in the roofs of the Palazzo, among
the rooms' vaults, where you can walk through metallic grid looking
at the below vaults.
It has six show-cases with photos and explanation panels, which
describe 7000 years of history of civilties operating in the territory
of Comitini. In fact we can find iv millennium B.C. lithic tools,
Castellucciana pottery from bronze age, glazed pottery from Arab
period (ix - xi century A.D.). Among the pieces, we can look at
a Castellucciana style cup dated back to the ii millennium B.C.
and a fragment of a plate with Arabian drawings (century xii-xiii
A. D.). Very interesting is a millstone dated back to the iv millennium
B.C.
