The Antiquarium is situated inside
one of the most important jewel of the antiquity, the Archaeological
Park in Eraclea Minoa. For the most part what the Antiquarium
exposes come from the excavations which were done between 1951
and 1964 and they brought to light a beautiful theater that looks
like Athens and Siracusa's.
At this purpose one can furnish himself through the photographic
panels which are on the walls of the Museum, they furnish dates
about the archaeological zone. In the panels you can read about
the duration of the excavation, in which way they were made and
what was found about the necropolis, the theater and its habitat,
with stratigraphic considerations.
Among 200 very beautiful pieces which are exposed inside 6 show-cases
and inside 2 glass show-cases, the little Ciborium, from the Lentini'
s group, stands out for its beauty (330-325 B.C.). The Ciborium
is entire, it has black bottom and shows two figures, one is masculine
and one is female. The Prehistoric Age pieces are also very interesting.
One can admire many ceramics and many tools. Then, inside two
glass show-cases one can find local and Rhodian pieces and wonderful
incisions on ceramics, besides one can observe some Prehistoric
fragments. As far as the graves the sector is very wide. Among
the others we must cite the burning sepolture which presents also
its equipment and the Kausis one.
A particular attention deserves the Antefix from Archaistic style,
six "Alabastron" from 325-300 B.C. and the Attic ceramics.
So, there are very precious and attractive piece that make Eraclea
Minoa' s Antiquarium a place where you can find traces of the
past of the whole humanity.
