The big open-air museum which is
Sicily, signed by a lot of point of reference of exceptional historic
and cultural importance, has been for centuries the primary source
of restocking for real museum.
It is not risked to say no else region can count, as Sicily, on
such numerous and rich museal organizations. The main sector is,
of course, the archaeologic one and the adjective is in the heading
of main museum in the island .
The province of Agrigento is universally famous because it offers,
apart from a conspicuous archaeological endowment, even charming
sections dedicated to "minor arts", like Montallegro's
ethno-anthropological museum which shows a big estate of agricultural
and country-life tools and a reconstruction of domestic environments.
Among the art-treasures of the museum what we want to show is
not only the history of a civilization behind which different
styles have been able to live together but, above all, the history
of a culture, where we can see the mediation of myth and where
it does not fail strange contamination between the wonderful in
Christianity and in Paganism.
These are the elements which flow from visiting the museums in
the province of Agrigento and they create the touchstone on which
appraising our own attainments and institutions.
We must warm the visitors that the
opening hours can be changed because of the staff shortage. We
hope that this situation changes engaging new staff (it would
be possible in this way to visit all of the museums also on Sundays).
Meanwhile it is better to phone to the museum you are going to
visit to have notice on present visiting hours.
In the museums which is required a ticket, it is free
for people under eighteen and over sixty.
