Upper and Lower Esino

Historically Esino was divided into 2 towns Esino Superiore and Inferiore, meaning upper and lower.  The municipio or town hall is in the middle.  Near it are the drugstore, doctor, post office, main grocer.

The Major Families

If you look in the provincial (Lecco) phonebook, you will find there are a number of large family groups, probably like towns in Cajun Louisiana with the Boudreaux and the Fontenots.  Everybody is either a member of one of these families and/or is related to members of these families.  So when you want to have anything done, it is done by a relative.  The larger families are

Shopping

Shopping is limited.  There is one large grocer with a shop of about the size of a large Stop and Go.  There are a couple smaller grocers.  There is a part time butcher across from the grocer.  There are a few small cafes and pizzarias, bars that sell tobacco, news stands.  Also a general store that sells or can get housewares like mailboxes, tables, and clothing.  There is one drugstore, post office, bank, 3 churches.

The weekly market on Tuesday morning near the center has about 7 small vans that sell meat, cheeses, housewares, shoes, and a large selection of produce.
