Michele Bacci

Michele Bacci was born in Pisa, Italy, in 1970.
He studied at the Scuola Normale Superiore, Pisa, where he dealt with mediaeval art research as a pupil of Prof. Enrico Castelnuovo; he got the Ph.D. degree in 1999. Nowadays he is Associate professor of Iconography in Siena University.
Since some years he deals with the history of sacred images and their different functions in the devotional life of the Middle Ages; in particular, many of his researches have been devoted to 13th century Italian panels imitating Byzantine icons, to sacred images attributed to St Luke, and also to 14th century testamentary bequests made in order to execute figurative works for the soul's sake.
Michele Bacci is a member of the GISEM (Inter-University Group
for the Study of Mediterranean Europe) and has participated in
several international exhibitions and congresses devoted to
Mediaeval art and history. His articles were published in the
"Bollettino d'arte", "Arte cristiana", "Annali
della Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa", and the "Journal
of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes".
