SUBJECT: Nero 5.5.8.0 or 5.5.8.2 fail or not recognize the correct speed of this CD BURNER device (may fall with some other devices i suppose..): " Hewlett Packard cd writer 8200 series (USB external version) " the testing machines have all the correct driver developed by the vendor installed for and under the correct version of the operative systems subject of this bug solving. DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM & SOLUTION PURPOSED Test Machine(s) Descrition: windows 2000 (with & without all recent service packs) italian and english versions tested windows XP (with and without all recent patches) professional and HOME English / Italian tested. The older release of winaspi.dll (version 2.0.1.16 ) present in the older version of nero (5.0.4.8) does not crash the most recent version of nero program versions (5.5.7.8 , 5.5.8.0 , 5.5.8.2 tested), but the release (winaspi.dll 2.0.1.16) distributed with the recent nero installer and the winaspi.dll specific for win NT / 2K / XP downloadable on ahead site, cause the program to fail and stall not only himself but also the windows burning engine (IMAPI.exe)! The most recent version of winaspi.dll (2.0.1.45) used with older nero (5.0.4.8) wor fine(but not with recent versions...). I suppose a function exposed in this release of winaspi32 dll (2.1.0.45) has the entry point defined in another library (that probably does not have this function...) or is not correctly initialized........ well no time for debuging... and a quick solution is here: Solution for users that run NERO 5.5.7.8 or 5.5.8.0 or 5.5.8.2: Substitution of winaspi.dll (2.0.1.45) with older winaspi.dll (2.0.1.16) or the not last recent winaspi.dll ( with winaspi.dll 2.0.1.44 nero 5.5.8.0 stall even , nero 5.5.8.2 will not stall but it will not recognize the correct speed of cd recorder (x1 max cd writing mode!)!). ------------ Sincerly Berardi Michele Senior Developer / Problem Solving Specialist Web: http://web.tiscali.it/mberardi http://web.tiscali.it/mberardi/curriculum/ENG/html/CindexE.htm E-mail(s): 03473192000@vizzavi.it mfxaub@tin.it Mobile: +39 347 319 2000
