Merseybeat

Merseybeat: a musical phenomenon that is generally associated with the Liverpool of the early ‘60s, and which owes its fame to the storming success of legendary groups from the Merseyside area, including the Beatles (but of course!), the Searchers, the Big Three, the UndertakersGerry & The Pacemakers and the Merseybeats. The brand of beat music made popular by these combos was notable for its strong melodic content, the use of "call-and-response"-style vocal harmonies, and the influence of other musical genres, including rock & roll, rockabilly and R&B.

In addition to performing this music in classic "rowdy" ‘60s fashion, the MERSEY SECT can boast an extremely varied repertoire of about one hundred songs which draw from all the above-mentioned styles. At a MERSEY SECT gig, you can expect to hear material originally made famous by legends such as the Beatles, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, the Searchers, Carl Perkins…), as well as tunes by lesser-known Merseybeat outfits (Chick Graham & The Coasters, Johnny Sandon & The Remo Four).
