The Mersey Sect - demo tape

I find it hard to believe that Italy can boast a band that, far from offering the umpteenth pale imitation of the Beatles, embodies the most genuine and authentic spirit of Merseybeat, Liverpool's own special brand of beat music. I assume that their name is the result of fusing the Merseybeats with the Downliners Sect.

The music on this demo, consisting of cover versions of Bad Boy, You Were Made For Me, Perfidia, Boys, There's A Place and Lies, immediately transports you to the smoke-filled atmosphere of the Cavern Club or the Star Club. Make no mistake, this Milan-based quintette, which features Brightonian Dominic Turner (vocals and guitar) and ex-François e le Coccinelle singer Francesco Turrisi (vocals and harmonica), have come up with a real gem.
