In the long furrow of tradition that is Sicilian culture, scholars and all Sicilians discover day after day the roots of their own memory and the weight of their own culture. So, in Sicily where there has been, among other things, the coexistence of three sister
cultures -- Christian, Hebraic, and Islamic -- to recapture the memory of the past is necessary to create a civil society. Only in this way can society be more interculturally aware and hence ready to confront the challenge that comes today from being born as new European citizens in an "ancient" continent. The new at all times confronts also its roots and nowhere more so than in our rich history as Sicilians.
