MOVIS
Italian Dictionary of Railway Operations and Signalling
CIFI (Collegio Ingegneri Ferroviari Italiani – the Institution of Italian Railway Engineers) announces the publication of the first Italian Dictionary of Railway Operations and Signalling; briefly known as MOVIS (acronym from the initials of MOvimento Impianti di sicurezza e Segnalamento).
The volume, edited by Pier Luigi Guida and Eugenio Milizia, qualified railway engineers, derives from the authors’ experience with FS (Italian Railways) and addresses in particular the sectors of train operations, safety and signalling. The book (Italian language), 480 pages, collects more than 3.500 terms in these fields, providing definitions and explanations useful to professionals, practitioners, engineering students and fans of railways.
In addition to classical terms, the volume provides reference about new lexicon which is becoming popular in the European rail sector, as a result of new trends such as: separation between network managers and transport operators, access-to-infrastructure, Community’s directives, technical regulations (CENELEC), interoperability and international programmes (e.g. ERTMS). The Dictionary, which is the first with this scope, should also be very useful for anyone who is interested in the Italian Infrastructure Management rulings, operations and their jargon.
The volume is priced at Italian £ 60.000 (Euro 30,99) plus postal charges.
