Demoncy/Dark Opus (usa/?) - split 7" 300x (Battlesk'rs '04)

From the ashes of Spikekult rises the Battlesk'rs label, and, after a fantastic re-issue Lp on the kult Demoncy album Joined In Darkness  they continues to pay tribute to Demoncy by releasing a split 7" with this cool band Dark Opus (?). In the Demoncy side The Ode To Eternal Darkness, old track originally recorded for a compilation Cd and released anywhere finally available: Ixithra on vocals, necrotic sound at its best, and definitely a great black metal song. Dark Opus in the B side with Infectious Ritual plays something not very far from Demoncy... from 1 to 10 I would give to this Ep 8.

Cult Of Daath (usa) - Razor War 7" 1000x (Nuclear War Now! Prod '04)

Cruel & barbaric, two words to describe the Cult Of Daath music, if you have listened to their unique Cd The Grand Tortures Of Hell you know what I',m referring to, but probably you know, unfortunately they have disbanded now... anyway here I have this cool Ep titled Razor War, out for the master label NWN! Prod. and featuring two unreleased trax, Razor War and Piercing The Thorax. Hellhammer meets early Sodom or early Kreator's most untechnical and approximative playing, imagine a kind of black grinding metal approaching some thrash veins... Barbaric & cruel, don't? 700x on black regular vynil, 300x (Die Hard version) on picture disk w/sticker, patch, poster and a special sleeve...

Anu (usa) - s/t 7" 200x (Ma Kahru Distr. '00)

Night falls and a candle start to lightning, when I start to listen to a music which seems to be coming from a parallel dimension. After a brief intro The Fires Return... surrounded in darkness. Abyssal. Furious. Occult. Evil. Dark Evil music as I didn't hear alike from years. Within The Realm Of Blackfrost smooths a carpet of keys, the beginning of my journey through the darkness, and Into The Gates of Eternity follows maintaining this dismal atmosphere, a more calm atmosphere... and only at the end of the outro Towards Thy Frozen Dominion I'm able to rejoin this world. Black air covers my room. Masterpiece (all the review could be summarized by this word). Anu is a side project built up by Drathrul, mainly known to be part of the Demoncy kult (Ixithra -see my interview elsewhere- too appears here with some summonings in the outro) and this black jewel, which was originally printed as a demo-tape, is unfortunately the only release from these demons; it was planned to be re-issued on the same format (with two bonus tracks) and on Cd-r by Ma Kahru in 2002, but it seems that all will go failed since Mike/Ma Kahru has closed down his label activity (maybe forever) for irreversible problems...

Arkhon Infaustus/Revenge (fra/usa) - The Toddler And The Priest/Deathless Will split 7" 500x (Osmose '04)

Aaargh!! What I read on the cover of this record! Revenge! a split ep togheter with french Arkhon Infaustus! Yeah! It is a mess I still don't have the last albums of these two band, but I can say that the headbanging starts when I put the A side and hear the new Arkhon Infaustus tune titled The Toddler And The Priest. Totally in their own style, this song is a exploitation of perversity (you're welcomed to read the bible quotings in the inner sheet) and brutality and has some cool moanings of pleasure in the central part (oh, oooh, ohhh!!); the Revenge Genocide Squad Session Deathaxe Atrocities still rules, now with Mr. Pete Helmkamp of the Angelcorpse kult (RIP - but mostly Order From Chaos, which is a bigger kult) playing bass. I think  Deathless Will is a superior piece compared to the previous 7" in my possession, better recorded and better played: more rage and more war, dedicated to extremists who bleeds on the altar of triumph.

Burzum - Once Emperor 7" lmt. bootleg

I guess this couple of bootleg (Burzum & Darkthrone's) comes from north America and I have some guessing about the label who released them, ahah! Anyway that label did a good work: here are put on vinyl two reh trax '92 by the king of norse black metal Varg Vikernes... the A side presents Once Emperor, song published on the split w/Svarte Dinner (bootleg album or what? or is it Svarte Dinner the title?! Anyway that Cd seems to be unfoundable) and the sadness starts... that kult guitar sound, even if bad recorded still gives me chills. On the B side a cool reh version of one of my favourite Burzum tracks: Lost Wisdom, but without vocals. In the cover you can see that famous picture of Varg Vikernes facepainted wearing a Mayhem shirt...

Darkthrone - Crossing The Triangle Of Flames 7" lmt. bootleg

Still on the same mood of the Burzum bootleg 7" here we have a Darkthrone bootleg 7", like a sort of record brotherhood (both have the same kind of artwork). Still we could find two rehearsal trax from 1992, when they were releasing the Under A Funeral Moon album: the first track is, that's right, Under A Funeral Moon and the second is Unholy Black Metal, both well played but with some noise on the background. I don't know if still you can find these two ep's around but try, there are more probabilities to find them in some north american distro's than european ones.

A copy of both the Burzum and Darkthrone bootleg ep's is available at my address for trade, get in touch damn!!

Goatvomit (gre) - Chapel Of The Winds Of Belial 7" w/poster  (Nuclear War Now! Prod. '02)

Bestial black metal worship of the Blasphemy and Beherit ancient cult here... after a wonderful demo here we have agan greek Goatvomit back with a limited 7" pressed by NWN! Prod. Bestial cover artwork, bestial nicknames in the vein of Blasphemy/Beherit/Demoncy, truly bestial music: I think the major reference to describe them musically is Sarcofago's INRI Lp, but the vocals are devoted to Beherit and the like... 2 main tracks alternated to instrumental short ones and intro + outro (a thing that reminds me a lot the first Impaled Nazarene Lp). Only for true worshippers of early Impaled Nazarene, Beherit, Blasphemy, Sarcofago, Demoncy and ultra satanic metal with a real underground spirit. This Ep was limited to 500 copies I think and contained a poster, but if you missed it you'll soon have a chance to get their first full-lenght Lp still through NWN! Prod.

Altar Of Perversion/Goatfire (ita) split 7” (Hellflame, ‘01)

This ep was out from Hellflame, the label owned by the guy behind Goatfire (R.I.P. - now I think he plays with members of those Goatreich666 in a band called Morbid Upheval)  and sadly -mostly for you- limited to 500 pieces. Italian elite black metal, this is for sure, having Altar Of Peversion with a inedit track on the A side, namely "Daemonic Lust": great main riff and son in the total vein of their Lp... Goatfire with "At The Portals Of Torment", pretty raw piece full of rage, some death metallish, great but not as their old 7"... unfortunately I don't have their Lp on Sombre -lmt. to 300, I think.

Nåstrond (swe) - Digerdodën 7" 166x (Full Moon Prod. '95/'03)

Originally released on 1000x from a collaboration between Full Moon Prod. and Freezing Rec. a year after the Age Of Fire Cd, Nåstrond's Digerdodën 7" was sold with another coversleeve from both the band and the two labels, but 200 original covers missed out, so some copies were sold at FMP without them, and now, at distance of 8 damn years the legendary Us' black metal label is selling the remaining 166 copies, but with a new cover directly from 2003, so we have the original vinyl with a different new cover! About the musical side I'm in front of a swedish leading underground act, the music is straight from the mid '90's scandinavian black metal crucible and the music is of course infernal, dark, fast and well played as anyway Nåstrond used to do... I think at the present time every of you who are looking for this Ep should try hardly about getting it, this is rarer than the original version, urgh. By my side is a joy to handle it. I have read that march 1th, 2004 (a few days after the writing of this review) Nåstrond will release a brand new album, all my support goes to true acts like them.

Profanatica (usa) - Broken Jew 7" 666x (Metal War Prod. '02)

Mmmh... Paul Ledney came back with the monickers Profanatica and Havohej in 2001/2002, released some stuff (Profanatica live Cd, Havohej "Man And Jinn" Mcd and Profanatica pic Lp) and then disappeared (it seems that he ripped off a lot of people who sent money at his address and however -damn Jesus!- a Havohej 7" was planned to be out for Us' label Blood Fire Death). Anyway for the joy of the legendary Osmose bands' maniacs, Us' War Metal Productions released in time this limited edition 666 Ep that which feature the only two existent studio trax done by this second incarnation of Profanatica which had Ledney doing (of course) drums and vocals, and two unknown guys (not a line-up here) which played live shows in the come back of 2001/2002.Anyway in my honest opinion Broken Jew and Fuck The Messiah are two trax not from Profanatica, but from Ledney with two unknown idiots, that's a real profanation of a cult: the Ep is easy listening extreme metal or better: it's hard to define its style even if sounds somewhat crude black/death, but it is not putrid, dark or desecrating as Profanatica were! The most negative point of the whole is that the cover (a sort of digital drawing with the cadaver of Jesus Christ in a desert) intensively sucks.

Revenge (usa) - Superion . Command . Destroy 7" (War Hammer '02)

War. This music makes me crazy! If you're not familiar with Revenge and you have not an idea of what their style is about I can tell you that Revenge is the new incarnation of canadian Conqueror since of their split-up after the War Cult Supremacy Lp. I have got this Ep as a promotional copy from War Hammer Rec. some months ago, now I think it's a bit obsolete to do a review for an Ep which can't be found ever, and by the way all of you should know that now this band is under Osmose Prod. and Pete Helmkamp of Order From Chaos/Angelcorpse is doing bass parts on this band, ha! But I love this record, so let me write a review on it: the music is still in the same way: furious war war grindcore/metal to the core with raging vocals. I listened to this 7" a lot of times with my bass amplifier just to hear more noise and start a total pogo: do ill yourself, ahah! To end the only Revenge man here is J. Read with two session members and among the two tracks we can find a song which was originally written for Conqueror, fucking great.

Sadogoat (den) - Scourging The Son Of God 7"  647x (Ancient Darkness Prod. '03)

That's fucking cool: after 6 demo tapes comes a Sadogoat 7" and the music is still played in the same fucked up way: noizz noizz noizz. The Ep (Scourging The Son Of God - aka: The Worst Session Ever) starts with Sacred Sodomy which in my opinion is very influenced stuff by the latest Profanatica ('92 circa) and anyway if you take a look on the cover or the logo you'll find a certain similarity between the cover of Profanatica's Putrescence Of... demo and this 7" -!!- (actually this title seems to be a fusion of Profanatica's Scourging And Crowning + Havohej's Dethrone The Son Of God, ha! and the line up presentation has Profanatica song-titles too! Necrodevil: Spilling Holy Blood; Sadistic Slayer: Raping Of Angels, etc.)... Unholy Blessings and Glories Of Mary were trax released in some Cd-r if I'm not wrong and in general I can say that the mood of this record reminds me some Goatvulva or Abhorer shit and by the way fans or true holocaustic metal noizz will not be of course disappointed. Limited edition of 647 copies, 547 (pussy version) on damn splattered pink gay vynil, 100 (die hard version) on black vynil including a pin.

Psychonaut (usa) - Zos Vel Thanatos 7" red transp.  vinyl (Ajna Offensive '99)

Not properly a side project but a real musical project with a consolidated mass following, Psychonaut (now known as Psychonaut 75 -75 being the qabbalistic number of Lucifer, Psychonaut maybe as a Fields Of The Nephilim reference?) were built up some years ago from the Black Funeral's brainchild Mike Ford in order to make real occult/ritualistic music inspired by Mr. Crowley (maybe you heard of the Psychonaut's Liber Al Vel Legis Cd) and the like in the crucible of the major occultists in the XX century. The present Ep Zos Vel Thanatos is inspired and dedicated to the art of Austin Osma Spare and contains hand-attached pictures (as in the front cover) of paintings of the famous painter/occultist as well... the music is done with the efforts of acoustic instruments, sampling programming and the drums are played with human and coyote bones to estabilish a connection between the self (Zos) and the dead of the astral dimension, the whole is produced with a deep-of-jar sound to make the listener fall into another level of conscience. Including a hand made sigil.

Morbosidad (usa) - Bajo El Egendro Del Crucificado 7" (Bestial Onslaught Prod. '02)

I'm sorry I have known this band too late to take a copy of their Lp through the masterlabel Nuclear War Now! Prod, but at least I'm fucking happy to grab this wonderful record of Morboso Metal! Well, if you haven't ever listened to them you can however suppose which kind of metal they do, releasing something for NWN!: total Blasphemy kult worship!! You have to imagine a kind of Blasphemy (especially for the demonic vocals) + brazilian black/thrash like Sextrash and early Sarcofago! Supporting the Satanic Metal revival with rage against the holy trinity of shit! Lyrics are totally irriverent to the jew deceiver and for the half are on spanish and half on english, a thing that in my opinion gives to the music a more barbaric approach... as far as I know this Ep (released in 2002 e.v.) is nearly to be sold-out, but if you want to get a copy you'll should ask to Bestial Onslaught Rec. directly.. An interview with these monsters will be featured in the next paper printed issue of MHBFY 'zine!!

Nocturnal (ger) - Fire Of Revenge 7" (Bestial onslaught Prod. '03)

Here is a brand new Ep from the german thrash metal band Nocturnal! Still thrashy as hell, presenting now three new trax (2 new songs +a cover from  Living Death's Killing Machine). It seems that now Nocturnal is a full band with five members, no more a kind of project of Evil Avenger (gt). Anyway I have everything by Nocturnal and I can say that in front of the previous releases they are technically improved (ok, they were already nothing bad, aha!) and are able to create pure retro german thrash metal in the vein of Poison, Living Death, Sodom or Kreator (The Final End, the last track of the Ep has a great Kreator-like riff!). Bang your head with german thrash ... (available at the B. Onslaught address).

Xasthur/Nachtmystium (usa) split 7" (Shades Of Death Rec. '04)

Brand new hot split 7" released from a US' label featuring the underground consolidated one man band Xasthur and the new one man project Nacthmystium. The second one opens the disc with a track called Desolation... would you call this "depressive black metal"? In my opionion it's a mere trend, nothing special anyway (Is that Azentrius, the Krieg bass player?!). In the B side, Malefic strikes again with a lo-fi recording of the dismal atmosphere of Spell Within The Wind, track which already compared in more than a release of the band. What I can say? Nevertheless, this Ep is fucking cool and worthy of your money if you're into that shit callled "depressive BM" or simply if you're fan of the "new wave of north american black metal" (!!).

Lp reviews

The Black - The Priest Of Satan Lp re-issue 300x (Cryptia Prod. '04)

Let's start the discovering of such kult acts outside norway by this trend of releasing on vynil their out of print Cd's or making poor looking "demo Lp"'s, yeah! 1000 better to have the original Cd with lyrics and old pictures, but what the fuck, I had only the Black Blood Mcd on Necropolis Rec. and I missed out The Priest Of Satan, and this was a good chance to recover it... Ok, I'm still am a little skeptic about this reissues on vynil, anyway this Lp is ok. Originally, The Priest Of Satan album was released from Necropolis Rec. around 1995 and in between a decade it remained unobserved, even if in my opinion The Black would had the chance to become part of the essential, most serious part of scandinavian black metal, and along with names like Dissection, Nastrond and Setherial is part of the old swedish scene, when the black metal genre was still truly hidden. This Lp, instead of many recent BM releases, sound truly metal and dark, keyboards are here and there, and it features all the track the Black Blood demo among the other. Also reissued by Miriquidi Prod. (Pol) on another 300x stock.

Black Funeral - Belial Arisen Lp '95/'04

Everyone by now hails everyone to be "great black metal" -bands or albums-, the world seems now overfilled with "great" people, so I wonder: "But who are those who NOT great?". I know it's an overrated question, everyfuckingone in underground black metal at least once speaks about it, and I don't know if I am the proper one to talk about this, but in this world, in every field or every level a thing is certain like death: many are the mediocres, few are the ONES. And Black Funeral were for sure within the second category. "Belial Arisen" was originally conceived and recorded in the mid 90's (and vocals latter completed in 2000 e.v.) and it exactly sounds like an uncontaminated and sincere black metal record; pure black metal with a pure personal vision, (this stuff could be put side by side with some Darkthrone, but all of you will understand this paragon is a bit approximate). Lyrics are serious and shows a true knowledge on occult subjects, and they deal the most with vampirism and licanthropy, but also with infernal gerarchies, and praise the cult of the selfgodhood (what would you think if I'd say that some lyrics blew lots of Darkthrone verses off?). The production makes this record sounds 100% underground, all songs are perfecly structured and arranged, while such demonic screams are flowing over those evil melodies... absolutely essential.

Darkthrone - Hate Them Lp gatefold 500x (Moonfog '03)

Finally I can grab a copy of the Darkthrone's 10th album and I immediately start playing the record putting the bass bost option at the maximum. After a short intro a slow and fucking pleasant riff introduces Rust, a slow funereal song with a halving of tempo in the chorus, as the norwegian masters learned from some Hellhammer/Celtic Frost stuff (especially Morbid Tales or Emperor's Return's most crude outfits); then Det Svartner Nå and Fucked Up And Ready To Die with a more fast yet cold approach and Ytterst I Livet with another cool slow headbangable main riff. B side opens with Divided We Stand which could be exchanged for a Plaguewielder song: a bit much more complex structure (or maybe it's just my impression); Striving For A Piece Of Lucifer follow the path of the fast songs in the A side and the Lp ends with In Honour Of Thy Name, in the pure Hellhammer way of riffing. Only 7 trax but lenghy songs as Plaguewielder, don't worry! All in all the atmosphere I feel by listening this Lp is so fucking heavy and more straigh-ahead than any Plaguewielder album and of course much less "death metallish" than every Ravishing Grimness stuff (ok, in my opinion Ravishing was a bit bit death metallish, but I haven't said death metal sounding!), this one is probably my favourite album of the second aera of Darkthrone (in my opinion started with Total Death). Unfortunately a negative point on this album there is: try to read the totally uninteresting lyrics and you'll understand what I mean, maybe Darkthrone stopped to be lyrically great on Total Death (which anyway had lyrical support from Satyr, Ihsahn, etc.). That's all.

Impaled Nazarene - All That You Fear Lp 500x (Osmose '03)

What a mess. All That You Fear is the 8th studio album from one of my greatest kults ever, and sadly, it is a normal metal album... merely boring as the previous shitty one Absence Of War Does Not Mean Peace, still thrashy as hell, not that putrid but well well played... fucking NORMAL metal music for NORMAL metal people? Maybe. But honestly I don't give a fuck about trying to describe the music since I think that anyfucking one reading this review could have any sort of interest about buying any new Impaled Nazarene shit. Maybe you can watch a video of the opening track Kohta Ei Naura Enää Jeesuskaan, which is circulating on the net (sorry I can't help you in find the url, since I don't give a fuck about that) to make you an idea of what this album sounds alike, or better take a hear to the samples from impnaz.net before spending your precious money. Anyway the question is spontaneous: why I bought this Lp and I spent 15 fucking euro's? Interesting question, but in my collection you can find everyfuckingthing from Impaled Nazarene and it would had a real mess to miss this one, AHAH!! Anyway you can take a look on the pictures I have taken during their last concert in Rome in Oct '93 in the gallery for a consolation (I'm fucking sorry for myself since I wasn't in front of Jarno Anttila instead of being in front of that "nobody" bassist -who showed a damn punk haircrest, as you also can see in the photosession of All That You Fear). Oh, anyway the only great track here is Halo Of Flies, which -strangely- sounds black, black metal, but you will not see again shit records like this reviewed on my 'zine.

Profanatica - Collection picture Lp 1000x (Necroscope '02)

After having released the Profanatica "Live" Cd and the Havohej "Man And Jinn" Mcd, Paul Ledney released in 2002 the picture disk version of the "Collection" Cd anthology originally released from War Hammer in 1000 handnumbered copies. What to say more? The artwork is the same, the music is the same: 16 tracks on which you can find the Putrescence Of... demo '90, Broken Throne Of Christ demo '90, Weeping In Heaven 7", the 4 trax of the legendary split w/ Masacre and 5 more or less unreleased trax (taken from a demo '92 on whick Ixithra of Demoncy was doing the guitar parts (the main riff of As Tears Of Blood Stain The Alter Of Christ is the same of a Demoncy track...) and anyway a few trax of those 5 appeared in the split ep w/ Impiety). After the War Hammer version in 2001 also Osmose Prod. planned to do a Profanatica anthology titled "The Unholy Black", hopefully will be released soon.

A copy of this picture Lp is available at my address for trade, get in touch if interested.

Xasthur (usa) - Suicide In Dark Serenity Mlp (Bestial Onlaught Rec. '03)

Did we forget the pure essence of black metal? Ok, this phrase sounds like shit, but did we forget about the true individual supremacy which BM praised for? Many 18 years old human fans of BM never known, and probably don't will understand what I mean, so I think that Xasthur's music is not for them. I heard a lot talking about this one man band from California and I felt a little skeptic about those reviews who described them to be near to the north european feeling, but yes I have to admit that it's true and not only, this is pure TALENTED music (if you know my definition of talent); Burzum, Ulver and Graveland influences are quite recognizable, but this Mlp can't be said as a mere sum of external influences: from the way of touching the guitar chords, to ending up to the lyrical aspect, passing through the very personal way of composing, every single note here seems to scream words like dismal, sorrow, hate, revenge, and misanthropy... a pure "cold" (this word fits at 100% what I feel during the listening) masterpiece like I didn't hear alike since the saddest Burzum or early Dimmu Borgir...

Inquisition (usa) - Unholy Inquisition Rites Mcd 500x (No Colours '04)

After the double Lp re-issue of the Into The Infernal Regions..., No Colours Rec. releases a Inquisition Mcd which features 4 tracks, 2 being raw wix of upcoming songs from the new Magnificent Glorification Of Satan album (soon to be reviewed here!): Crush The Jewish Prophet and Impaled By The Crypitic Horns Of Baphomet are in the vein of the 2nd album  Invoking The Majestic... maybe a little more fast drumming (or maybe it's just the imperfect mix to give this impression?). Other tracks are Baptized In Black Goat Blood, taken from a rehearsal in feb 2004 and a live track from the 1st album recorded in 2001 in Germany. Limited to 500 and absolutely a must...

Open Grave (usa) - The Heavens Cry Black Tears Mcd (Regimental Records '03)

Necro, necro terrifying antihuman -anti everything- black metal from Usa. Here we have Open Grave with this cool Mcd that is a reissue of their unique demotape released some years ago and in my opinion their stuff can be compared to a sort of Havohej or Krieg grinding sound of guitars but with a certain dose of never heard stuff, quite interesting, brutal and extremely rotting black metal with simple lyrics, this Mcd contains 6 trax and presents us a magnificent elegant looking artwork... available from Regimental Rec for 7 usd: info@regimentalrecords.com

Beyond The Gate Of Nanna, A Tribute To Beherit Cd-r 113x (Goat Perversion Rec./Unsung Heroes Rec. '02)

UHR is a north american based label guilty to have released, amongst its other sampling Cd's and shit like that a Darkthrone tribute in '99 or so which was titled "The Next Thousand Years Are Ours", limited on damn 113 copies and featuring more or less only north american demo/unknown black metal  acts... so in june 2002 UHR striked again with a Beherit tribute (still limited on 113x, which some I saw to be sold on Egay (Ebay) by crafty customers): damn rotting piece of true rotting music performed by fucking rotting people: Rampage (Usa - if I'm not wrong one of the members is the label owner?) opens with Tireheb/Salomon's Gate, Wrath Ritual (Usa) doing a morbid version of classic Down There..., The Syre (Can) - The Gate Of Nanna; Hellchasm (?) - Black Arts (pleasant...), Cult Of Daath (Usa) - Sadomatic Rites (previously released in The Grand Tortures Of Hell Cd '01 by War Hammer); Negative Plane (Usa) - The Oath Of Black Blood; Necroslaughter (Pol) - Metal Of Death; Tophet (?) - Penetrator Hammer; Nocturnal Evil (Arg) - Satanic Chaos; rehtaF ruO (Usa) - Grave Desecration; Wind Of The Black Mountains (Usa well known underground veterans) - Hail Sathanas; Megiddo (Usa) - Sadomatic Rites; GomorraH (?) - The Gate Of Nanna. Try at Egay and make a high bid or get in touch with the label...

Demoncy (usa) - Faustian Dawn/Within The Sylvan Realms Of Frost 2CD re-issue (Baphomet Rec. '02)

This double Cd re-issue is pretty old I know, it was done by Baphomet Rec. (R.I.P.?!) in 2002, with the purpose to resume such jewels of US' black metal: I thought it was just the two now totally out of print albums by Demoncy (Faustian Dawn & Within The Sylvan Realms Of Frost), but this is a complete anthology filled with lots of rehersal stuff, demo stuff, rare tracks etc... I know that in te various vynil re-issues (Sombre Rec. and Spikekult Rek.) many btx were put... well, here you can find all of them... Starting from the Faustian Dawn album (which in effects is their demo '93), on which Demoncy showed to be very influenced by early Beherit (and Blasphemy, for their long war names...) passing through the history of this band that has remained so hidden for a such long time by listening to their various reh tape, which in my opinion are very different one from each other (from raw black metal to somewhat scandivian black...). Track list is the following: 1-7 "Faustian Dawn" demo '93, 8-10 from reh tape '95, 11-15 from reh tape '96; and in the second Cd: 1-6 studio trax '96, 7-10 "Hipocrisy Of The Accursed Heavens" demo '94, 11-13 "Ascension Of A Star Long Since Fallen" demo '95... more than 160 minutes of Demoncy, a must for fans of underground satanic black metal.

Demoncy (usa) - Empire Of The Fallen Angel Cd (Blood Fire Death '03)

I have listened this Cd several times because I didn't believe that Demoncy, the Us kult black metal band  for excellence, wimped out in a so shitty manner: yeah, that's a tragedy! Unbelievable! I was expecting for long time for this Empire Of The Fallen Angel Cd, and this new album appear like a  try by Demoncy to play "cool" black metal like Dimmu Burger use to do! The production here is of an high level and the cover and artwork doesn't fit very much for a underground metal album, and the music is PERFECTLY arranged and played: clear guitar sound, clear vocals, clear drumming, and not a little mistake... and the lyrics... the lyrics speaking about moon, snow, ancient knowledge... this album feels all FAKE like Mystic Circle! Popular black metal for kids, in other words!! Do you remember the sensations of ancient darkness that Joined In Darkness was able to evocate? The underground morbidity immortalized between the raw notes of Within The Sylvan Reals Of Frost? This brand new album by Demoncy has nothing to do with their previous efforts... I could recommend this Cd to some kids who like "medieval" videogames or shit like that.

Desastrious (usa) - Loekk Inn Niflheim Cd 1000x (Desastrious Rec. '98)

Interesting. I have heard of this band as typical Us' black metal sounding, but I would resemble their (his - Nocturnus Desastrious being the only member of this project) style to some Black Legions' Metal stuff, Vlad Tepes in primis, vocals on this Cd seems to be a perpetual regurgitation of black vomit, but the guitar is too thiny sounding. The curious thing on this album is that most of the lyrics of the songs are singed in ancient norwegian language -!!- :after the doom metal band Thorr's Hammer we are in front of another episode of Norse ass-licking from oversea, yeah! For the heathen pride, paganistic revival and artistic superiority of course! All this shit said from a one who claim himself a misanthrope...  all this humanistic/socialist/folk "black" metal must stop.

Goatpenis (bra) - Trotz Verbot, Nicht Tot Cd (Death To Mankind '04)

Around 10 years ago, in 1994 E.V., when black metal was starting to become popular and metal mags in Europe begun to feature interviews with norwegian acts, there was a hidden finger of the hand, which  in these years is gaining the meritate respect through the discovering of some kult acts (Blasphemy are the most lightning example), which used to play in some chaotic and more underground -ok, the term is relative- way, mixing the furiousity of grindcore with a death/black metal surrounding: the last discovering from this kind of ancient, hidden, death/black metal truly underground shit in the correct sense of the word is a band from Brazil (which before I thought to be from Finland!), Goatpenis. Death To Mankind just released this Cd (previously released in 2002 from a Us' label -Selfless Recordings- in 200 copies) which contains the demos "jesus Coward" ('94) and "Blessed By War" ('93); 12 trax for a total running time of 46 min. The first side of the Cd is good black/grind played with rage, the second (the demo '93) is instead too bad recorded to be appreciated in its entirety, and by the way it seems to be more death-metallish than else... if you are a fan of chaotic noizz like me you'll surely appreciate this resumed old demo-taped shit.

Havohej (usa) - Dethrone The Son Of God Cd re-issue 2004 (Supreme Art  Productions)

Here's a reissue of one album of undisputable fundamentality in Us' black metal: Havohej's Deathrone The Son Of God!!  The original Cd was pressed by Candlelight in 1994, exactly 10 years ago and remained unavailable for a lot of time since now... it featured, on the words of Paul Ledney (dr + vc) "how Profanatica should have sounded", and probably this could be considered like the never released  Profanatica debut Lp (have you ever heard of The Raping Of Virgin Mary?!, which sessions -1992- were stopped for irreversible mysteries...?!), since trax 1-5 and 7-8 (7 trax of 13) are Profanatica tunes and the rest has some instrumental (incomplete?!) trax in the proper Havohej Ep (take a hear to Unholy Darkness And Impurity 7" or Black Perversion 12"). Vocals are the most outstanding example of what should be called "the black vomit", if you can understand what I mean; the drums are incredibly technical and gives to the music a malate yet schizoid aura, and the guitar and bass, played by Brett Makowskij  (Profanatica member since the Putrescence Of... demo, if I'm not wrong) are fucking desecrating with a true necrotic sound, tipical of every Profanatica/Havohej stuff  At least the famous spoken word (lyrics for that are included in this new booklet -argh! the new artwork really sucks!-) titled "Dethrone the Son of God"... Supreme Art Productions e-mail: supremeart@aol.com, but if you are a wimp or a norse sucker this Cd is not a thing for you.

Il Sangue (usa) - Reprieve demo-cd  '03

Why I couldn't review this fantastic demo? Because before I did not can find the right words to describe how majestic, infinitely emotional this music is, and damn, is not a daily occurency you are face to face to such greatness and overwhelming talent. Il Sangue is italian for The Blood, and this is a doom metal band. What do you intend for doom metal? I guess lots of you reading this will think about St. Vitus, or Candlemass... or to early Cathedral (Soul Sacrifice Mlp + Forest Of Equilibrium Lp), but no... Il Sangue rewrites the eraticated concept of doom, musically speaking; maybe we are in front of the end of the world, or maybe is just this sad music in my hears that let me think that.... I couldn't resist so I got in touch with Neil, brainchild of Il Sangue... it hasn't been otherwise: I HAD to know about the mind of the artist who created such a great sad soundtrack for a probable end of the world, the one who has written these two incredibly talented underground tunes of DOOM music... masterpiece. Il Sangue is already CULT.

Fall Of Empyrean/Il Sangue (usa) split Cd

Us' doom metal band Il Sangue strikes again with a split Cd with the death/doom metal band Fall Of Empyrean. Fall of Empyrean opens the Cd with an acoustic intro and This Paradise Crumbles starts... cool main riff and cool keys' inserts... but in my opinion too much "normal" death/doom as a lot of bands can do. Destructive Light Of Dawn is a better song in the same style but a bit more "doom" aura, yet with great keyboards but damn, the vocals are horrible!! The Order of Il Sangue follows after an intro done with a sort of gregorian chant sampling, with On Earth, As It Is In Perdition, a long track on which the slow doom parts (singed sometimes with deep vocals, sometimes with shrills) are alternated to calm weird parts with sort of arpeggios, it makes the song a bit monotonous, but still surronded in dark. On the same line comes As Tongue Meets Ash, which is another lenghty track composed more or less in the same way. Not as great as Reprieve, but I listened to some samples of their upcoming Lp (through Parasitic Rec.- Belgium) and I appreciated them a lot... the waiting will be long.

Morbosidad (usa) - S/T Cd re-issue w/btx (Evil Morgue '04)

Here we have the first full-lenth album by Morbosidad, which was originally released 4 years ago in 1000 Cd's and 1000 Lp's. Fortunately we have still the pleasure to get this this insane piece of blasphemic violence from these worshippers of the most bestial side of the metal genre... what do you expect? This music in my opinion have to pay tribute a lot to some south american/brazilian ancient kults like Sarcofago, Sextrash, Holocausto, thus the vocals reminds a lot Blasphemy (anyway still "exotic" sounding). I think that you're into Blasphemy or bestial black metal in general this is a must for you. As I said in their 7" review lyrics are in spanish, which contributes to give to this album a true barbaric aura: titles like Castracion Bestal (Bestial Castration), Cagada De Christo (Shit of Christ), Cruxifica Tu Existencia (Crucify Your Existence), let you think about this. Lyrics are truly blasphemous and insane. This re-issue contains also 8 btx (4 reh trax + the Santisima Muerte demo '94).

Morbosidad (usa) - Cojete A Dio Por El Culo Cd (Evil Morgue '04)

Brand new album from these ispano-american sickos, curiously titled "Cojete A Dio Per El Culo" (Fuck God In The Ass), still quite explicit lyrics and titles, the barbaric conquest continues with a more raging and a more violent approach in music... Morbosidad transformed themselves into demons and started to record this album: vocals work is worthy of a devilish fiend, guitar riffs is extremely rotten and drums ricamates truly barbaric tempos - in my opinion this new one album is superior than the self titled debut... just hear yourself... titles are Sangriento Sacrificio Cristiano, Ritual En El Pentagram, and such atrocities in the same mood... 13 trax in total including an outro and a morbid cover of Beherit's Salomon's Gate. Also available on vinyl through View Beyond Rec. (Bel). Check out the imminent interview on this shitty website...

Mournful Congregation (aus) - Dawn Of Mournful Hymns 2Cd (Weird Truth '01)

A mysterious doom metal act coming from the ass of the world (Australia), and if I say "mysterious" that's not for wasting some words free... and anyway if I say "doom" I of course do not mean that boring subgenre of heavy metal which in effects is more known as "doom/death metal"... but ok, here we have slow slow snervant guitar works all in all the songs, vocals are truly deep... but the lyrics... even if the music show itself to be very boring and obsessive many times, I read some lyrics here and they doesn't seemthe usual bunch of "doom" bullshit but real suicidal lyrics.... here we have not a debut album, is there doesn't exists already a debut album from the Mournful Congreation, here we have a complete anthology of all the demos this band has done through the years: "Weeping" (1994), "An Epic Dream Of Desire" (1995), "Tears From A Grieving Heart" (1998), and a final track titled "The Epitome Of Gods And Men Alike" (2000). If you're into true cemeterial and suicidal doom this is your chance to know a true respectable band.

Warloghe (fin) - Womb Of Pestilence Cd (Illuminating Void '04)

The second Warloghe album, the second part of the trilogy Possession-Womb-Void. Great concept, magnificent lyrics, very interesting artworks and ideology, great tunes (in the total vein of The First Possession) and the same occult abysmal atmosphere that their music let you breath, for me this Cd fits at 100% the claassification under "black metal". Originally conceived during the very same sessions of the previous effort, both music and lyrics of Womb of Pestilence (as probably the next album) were conseguently recorded during spring of 2003 but curious, they present the very same sound: cryptic ambience, raw guitars, and horrible vocals. Total misanthropy, one of the only three "new" black metal bands that I only worship these days (togheter with Xasthur and Inquisition). Better if you aren't able to find a copy of this Cd, probably still limited to 1000 copies (and Lp limited to 333 that unfortunately I missed out), published by this never heard label called Illuminating Void (I have some thoughts it is a self production).

Xasthur (usa) - A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors (Total Holocaust Rec. '03)

After having purchased several vynil releases by Xasthur (see reviews), my thirst was not appeased, so I got another bunch of Cd from this great one man band from Usa. Here's A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors, the re-issue of the demo Cd-r which was released by Ma Kahru around 2001, total running time of around 77 minutes (near the maximum lenght of a Cd!), absolutely a great release... If you're not familiar with Xasthur's style, maybe you would like to read which bands they reminds or so, but we're not talking here of a band like Horna or Armagedda, too much "inspired" by Darkthrone riffing and way of composing, I think Xasthur can be compared to bands like Burzum, Ulver and early Graveland but without putting these bands in terms of major or minor influences, only the music has a somewhat unperceptive feeling that let your thoughts fly to the remembrance of such atmospheres that bands like those have created (talent is the key-word)... In this Cd you can hear beautiful notes of dismal and melodies of sorrow mostly dedicated to Ms. Anthropy, and titles like Suicide In Dark Serenity, Spell Within The Winds, Storm Of Red Revenge are in my opinion the most impressive tracks. Also covers from Mutiilation and Burzum included: recommended. thr666@telia.com

Xasthur/Angra Mainyu (usa/ger) split Cd (Total Holocaust Rec. '03)

After a demo a split Cd; better sound, better playing... 4 trax for Xasthur which 2 are cool lenghty black metallish songs in his usual style, then the short instrumental The Funeral Of Being and Det Der Einsamkeit, Wigrid cover... phantastic emotional doom... like walking alone in a snowy landscape with the only company of trees, these are the vision that Xasthur is able to create on my brain with their part of this split... Angra Mainyu is a german band, I guess, anyway I really don't know them but they sounds nothing bad: 100% raw black metal with some good raging shrills of hate, their part is of 6 trax. Total running time of more than 51 minutes, a must if you adore Xasthur and a chance to listen to some raw anonymous loutish black metal from an unknown band. thr666@telia.com

Xasthur (usa) - To Violate The Oblivious Cd (Total Holocaust Rec. '04)

Uh uh, last Xasthur album finally on my hands, or better I hope it's the last since this one man band delivers an abnormal quantity of stuff every year, but ok, maybe these are the latest compositions done within 2003/04: quite recognizable style with magnificent trax like Xasthur Within and doomish feelings by listening this Cd grows up with Screaming At Forgotten Fears and a astonishing passage of Marked By Shadows . This Cd has a great sound in comparison to others Xasthur Cd's I have got and in particular the drums sounds like an earthquake, the only thing maybe it's the eccessive lenght of some tracks, like 8 min or 12 min,a bit annoying, but only when the song repeats itself ad nauseam. Total playing time of around 70 minutes, if you buy this Cd your money aren't wasted. THR e-mail: thr666@telia.com

Bestial Summoning (hol) - The Dark War Continues Cd 1000x (War Hammer Rec. '02)

This Cd was released from War Hammer Records (R.I.P.) in 2002, and after resuming the old Profanatica recordings we have another kult underground, pre-Darkthrone standard in the style of nowadays black metal, the dutch band Bestial Summoning! Quoted by people like Euronymous or Varg Vikernes are example of untrue black metal band, strangely followed like a cult from fans of true morbid satanic metal... Norwegian followers with their lyrics dealing with nature can just fuck off, for me the word "black" fits more well for bands like Beherit, Profanatica, early Impaled Nazarene, early Samael, bands that Grishnackh hated because in his opinion they were "false as they don't mean what they say". Burzum is cult but the "bestial black metal" category band was the true essence of satanic-ism (yes, the word is correct!) and evil in extreme metal music... Nothing but a pure cult Cd anthology which collects the entire The Dark War Has Begun Lp (No Fashion Rec, '92) the mysterious Venray OJC Dingus 26/06/1992 7" (which captured a live perfomance where the band was doing support for Samael), a reh. track '91 and the first tracks of the improvised Sodomistic Rituals demo 1991, includes lyrics of the Lp and many old pictures of the members.....

Demo reviews

Church Of The Flagellation, Extreme Doom Compilation w/ Stabat Mater, Bunkur, Malasangre, The Sad Sun (Catacomb Music '04)

Catacomb music is a new extreme doooom metal label built up by John, the guy which gained a certain reputation around the underground for having released some issues of a 100% doom 'zine called Abandon All Hope (Ire), and now with this tape released we could hear by ourselves some good (more or less) and very slow, enervating, exhausting doom metal from the pits of the church of flagellation... the first band is the mysterious Stabat Mater, known for hasving done a split w/ Worship (fra) and Mournful Congregation (Oz - see Cd reviews), proposing a great untitled track, 100% doom with dark feelings, growls and a good dose of dismal... Bunkur follows: really a weak and too long track with very thin guitar sound, in my opinion a kinda stoner version of the worstest Abruptum (curious is that a member is wearing an Abruptum shirt in the pic!).  from the B side Malasangre doing doom with sampling, synth, organ and drones, and at the end The Sad Sun with a long track of standard doom/death... if interested: intothecatacomba@hotmail.com

Anu (usa) - Adv. tape for re-release on Cd-r (Ma Kahru Distr. 2003)

Why this Cd  has then remained never released? Why Ma Kahru Distr. would ended up? The Anu material that was issued on that wonderful 7" from 2000 e.v. would have been put onto Cd with some additional tracks: same wonderful dark and furious black metal art played by  Drathrul, with the addiction of A Sorrowful Funeral Night and Nachtmusik, two ambient tracks in the mood of the ambient stuff in the 7", somewhat similar to Profane Grace...

Beherit - Live In Oulu 23-8-91 tape, bootleg 200x (unknown, '04)

I am disappointed. This is the last bootleg tape of Beherit and features a live performance dated 23-08-91... in Oulu: is wasn't the Day Of Darkness Festifall datation? Yes, it's just the Beherit side of the legendary split Lp w/Impaled Nazarene (minus the Sarcofago cover which is not present here), which was bootlegged also on Cd recently, so I guess these tapes are recorded from the Cd directly: to easy to dub a tape from a already existent bootleg and make a new bootleg; it is not surely essential to own a copy of this release, unless you are a true maniacal collector.  Anyway this tape has a good sound.

Blood Stained Dusk (usa) - Continuance Of Evil demo Cd-r 2003

Burning Winds (usa) - The Flame Of Lucifer demo #1 200x (Goat Productions 2001)

Uh Uh. A new band whose sound can be compared to Profanatica (for the necrotic aura) or the evilest Beherit or early Samael, but the last two only for the vocal work, which sounds very dark and evil like the above mentioned masters used to do. Burning Winds is a one man band from USA handled by an ex-member of the band Winds Of The Black Mountain (namely NecroDan) and by his statement this music could be defined as "Anti-Human Satanic War Metal 666", or easily "Satanic Black Metal"; I think this is a great demo, minimalistic in its effort: simplistic guitar work and obscure vociferations, while the drumming is electronically programmed. This demo contains 5 great tracks, if I'm not wrong it was originally released as a split-tape with dutch Kerberos on Goat Prod. (Hol)... and I know that Kiss Of Shame label (Gre) is managing to do release a goat kult Burning Winds Lp at the end of 2004.

Burning Winds (usa) - Blessed By Hell demo #2 200x (Satans Millennium Records 2001)

Another Burning Winds demmo, but this time played with a real drumming. And the tracks are pretty short ones, compared to "The Flame Of Lucifer"... maybe played live? Well, tracks are (were?) Servants Of The Horned Master, Demonic Rituals, Sadistic Evil... it will be great to listen to their full-lenght soon!

Burning Winds (usa) - Altar Of The Goat demo #3 2002

Bluuuuuuurrgghh!! Around 10 minutes of backdropped noise with screams of torture and overdriven chaos and noise, noise... very short tracks, worstest recording level than ever (see previous review)... I hope their Lp will sound as the first demo!!

Crucifiction (gre) -Crucified With Horns demo #1 2003

Crucifiction come from Greece and plays cool raw death metal! Yes, finally a death metal demo here... the sound is typical of greek bands, so you have to expect raw and somewhat technical riffs, hammering bass which follows the hammering sound of drums and the typical aura of many greek bands, so don't expect nothing similar to Us' death metal, but if you enjoy the hystorical swedish death, you'll like Crucifiction too... As far as I know this is their first demo and it contains 5 tracks, lyrics are a bit satanic and well thought. crucifiction@mail.gr

Demonar (usa) demo #1 2003

I don't know anything about them since I have their demo recorded as a b-side of the Anu adv. tape, and anyway is a truly bad recorded tape. It is raw as fuck death/black stuff with a incisive sound that don't allow any doubt about their origin (Usa), maybe are they from Texas? This demo feels like a more underground version of the most raging Thornspawn stuff (2nd Lp).

Devilry (fin) - Inhumane Regiment tape 259x (Bestial Onslaught Prod. '03)

Here we have a new release by Bestial Onslaught, the re-release on tape of the "Inhumane Regiment" 7" by Devilry that was out a couple of years ago, plus a bonus track in the same style: raging death metal with shrills, pretty schizoid like Devilry use to do, all here praise war and suffering... this tape comes professionally printed  and not on standard plastic box but w/ a hard carton box and contains a pin , lyrics card sheets and a sticker. Absolutely great original death metal from this finnish sickos.

Inferior/Front Beast (ger/ger) - split tape 100x (Deathstrike Rec./H.D.R. 2002)

Uh, a Front Beast split tape. It's pretty old I know, and fairly obsolete to review now: out 2 damn years ago, limited to 100 copies (mine is #86, so you can guess). Well, Inferior is a german band, part of the German Black Metal Horde (what the fuck's that?!) and plays, guess, Burzum-ish black, mostly in the vein of the "Filosofem" Lp... not that miracle of a band, but cool Burzum imitation indeed. Front Beast here with a inedit track called "I Worship The Beast" (whose lyrics are just the title, shrilled over and over again), and at the end of aal this a cover of Judas Priest's The Ripper, well played but screamed with Burzum-like vocals - Varg Vikernes docet.

Front Beast (ger) - Procreation In Fire demo #4 666x (Deathstrike Rec. 2002)

Also this fourth demo from the german one man band Front Beast (handled by Evil Avenger of Nocturnal) was out in 2002, and probavly also this tape is nowadays totally sold-out, but who cares? Let me do my review anyway... 2 trax + intro and outro of the consolidated sound that Front Beast have shown on the previous "Victims Of Death" demo 2000 (see review in the old section), and unfortunately this proof is very weak confronted to the previous effort: still german thrash mixed with Burzum-live sonorities, but I have to admit this demo is truly boring (especially the second song)... at the end another cover, this time is Sabbat's Darkness And Evil.

Legion Of Antichrist (gre) adv. tape Mlp 2004

I think the word that represent what I have just listened to is "crude", and believe me, it fits very well the stuff contained on this tape. Legion Of Antichrist is a greek band on which Bestial Necroperversor from Goatvomit plays something (honestly I don't know anything else) and the style of this death/black metal is truly CRUDE sounding: distorted guitars, hammering bass, 100% pretty minimalistic but extremely metal riffs and bad bad sound, but ok, it's only an adv. tape. And I'm starting to adore them!! Trax are: Satan Rules, Legion Of Antichrist, Eosforos, Unholy Command! Hopefully a Mlp with these 4 great trax will be released soon through the Kiss Of Shame label (owned by the guys from Goatvomit)!!

Mortinatum (spa) - Demo #1 66x 2003

Black Metal coming from the Basque country (in effects from Spain)... quite indipendentist I'd say, since lyrics are totally in the basque language (and so people can't understand a fuck). Mmm, pretty fast drumming and cool riffs, on which a mix of influences within swedish (mostly the guitar sound) and norwegian black can be noticed, as a major references I would say Burzum, even if this influence can be heard clearly only in the slow/atmospheric parts. This demo contains 3 tracks + intro + bonus track (a bit in the vein of early Satyricon), and in general I can say that Mortinatum plays good standard black metal, but even STANDARD... not too much personality... and anyway all these nazionalistic shit in black metal must stop, I hate these kinds of people, better to you to play punk or whatever fucking style of music you want...  urgarun@yahoo.es

Nocturnal Evil (Arg) - Unholy Chaos demo #1 2002

Nocturnal Evil is a (one man?) band known to me for having paid tribute to Beherit in  the UHR's "Beyond The Gate Of Nanna" Tribute Cd-r and for having done a Von classic cover Von (which I heard somewhere on the net)... exactly about these prerogatives I wanted to get in touch with Nocturnal (music, lyrics & intro on this demo), brainchild  of Nocturnal Evil, and I got these material: I think this demo could be exchanged to come straight from the end of 80's death/black metal most raw/low fidelity producted bands... riffing is black metal enough to be classified as "black", intensity is typical of south american metallers and drumming seems to be done by a drum machine. This is exactly what I seek: crudeness. Intensity. Backdropped sound. Fans of early Beherit/Goatvulva/Goatpenis/Blasphemy are welcomed. Hopefully a split 7" Sadogoat/Nocturnal Evil will be released soon from Ancient Darkness Prod. (den).

Nocturnal Evil (Arg) - Rehearsal 2001

Same style as the Unholy Chaos demo, with the difference that this is a rehearsal tape, so the sound is more shitty and here I don't have track titles neither. Underground...

Toxic Holocaust (usa) "Critical Mass" demo #1 Cd-r (Nuclear Hell Rec. 2002)

In my opinion the band-name "Toxic Holocaust" damn sucks. But ok, it's only a band-name, it doesn't have nothing to do with their style... or better, it feels like a thrashy band-name, so they are  trhashy as hell! I would define this style as old retro thrash with some black-metallish fast part (even if I don't mean 100% black); the vocals are so fucking great and original and I can't  write a comparison to describe them, but imagine bass toned vociferations that sings upon thrashy dirty dirty riffs with technical guitar works... 12 tracks here including a cover from Bathory's Sacrifice, for a duration of around 21 minutes...

Toxic Holocaust (usa) "Metal Attack" promo 2003

I knew already this band for I have listened to their demo "Critical Mass" from 2001, and the style on this brand new promo tape is basically identic: their goal is to play retro thrash metal in the vein of the dirtiest german acts from the 80's, mixing a good dose of Venom (and maybe a dose of the most motorhead-ian Bathory?). Only two trax are here: Death Master and Metal Attack. I have heard T.H. will release a Lp through Nuclear War Now! Prod.
