The life of Primo Levi 

Primo Levi was born in Turin in 1919,son of Cesare and Ester Luzzati, who had married in 1917. His ancestors were Jewish of Piedmontese origin coming from Spain and the "Provenza". In 1934 he attended the Ginnasio-Liceo (Azeglio), well know for  its fomous illustrious teachers, who were against Fascism, ( Augusto Monti, Franco Antonicelli, Umbrto Cosmo, Norberto Bobbio and many others ). Levi was a timid and diligent student, in chemistry and biology, but he did not love history and Italian. Cesare Pavese was his Italian teacher in the first form. In 1937 Levi got interested in scientific texts and so he attended  the "facoltà" of chemistry at Turin university. Later racial laws were passed in Italy however he went on with his studies succeeding in graduating with full marks in 1941. In the meantime his father got sick and so Levi was forced to do work to support his family. In 1942 he entered the clandestin party action, a secret group that fought against the fascists . During a reunion out the Val of Ayos he was sent to prison with other partisans, considering that he was Jewish he was sent to the concentracion camp of Carpi Fossoli. In 1944 he was sent with all the Jewish prisoners to Auscwitz in Germany. Levi was in the Monowitz lager. In the beginning he had to work in a group that built walls, later, he was sent to a laboratory. When the Germans left the camp because of the arrival of the Russians and abbandoned the sick prisoners in the infirmery. Levi was suffering of scarlattina that saved him. He went back home travelling across white Russia, Ukraine, Hungary, Romania and Austria. Levi told this experiece in his novel " La tregua ". He arrived in Turin on 19 October 1945. In 1947 he married Lucia Marpurgo, that gives him two children, Lisa Lorenza and Renzo. He accepted  to work as a laboratory in a factory and became manager after a few years. In 1958 his famous book was isigned "Se questo è un uomo". It was read all ower the world. He write other books and poems that gave him success and prizes. he travelled through all over the world and told his story. He claimed for the respect of the people that had to suffer their terrible expiriences. On April 11 1987 he committed suicide in his house in Turin.
