 n june 11th 1993 the National Jatta Museum was opened, thus concluding the work that Giovanni Jatta Senior had begun one century and a half before and that several of his heirs had carried on, to prevent the scattering of such a rich inheritance of antiquities found out in Ruvo at the beginning of XIXth century.

 In those years, people who by chance discovered any object, was only attracted by coins or by valuables, so that when they discovered simple clay vases they were really disappointed and got rid of those object throwing them away.
But soon, as the information of such finds went beyond the region’s borders, such towns as Ruvo, Canosa, Ceglie, were literally invaded by strangers who, taking advantage of the citizens’ inexperience, bought the best objects paying for them a price much cheaper than that of their real value.
Giovanni Jatta Senior was really troubled about this speculation and havoc as he well knew the value and the importance of those objects, wishing that the vestiges of the past, brought to light, contributed to keep alive in each person the awareness and the proper pride for their historical origins and for the value of such an ancient and rich culture.
Afterwards, Giovanni Jatta Junior, carrying out a work that his relatives had begun, succeeded in settling the Museum in his family palace. |

 In the meantime, those negotiations started on April 1914 went on, thus allowing the acquisition on behalf of the public entity of this important collection.
Anyway, the repeated failures of these negotiations determined that the collection was kept in the rooms that the family assigned to that aim, until the happy conclusion of the story, that saw this wonderful inheritance of ancient objects exhibited into its best location: the Jatta Museum in Ruvo. |
