Math Operations

Use the Math Operations dialog to perform common mathematical transformations on one or more keyframes, or on an entire channel. Some common transforms include: Averaging, Flipping, Reversing, and so on.

To apply a math operation to a channel:
  1. In the Timeline, select the keyframes in a channel to which you want to apply the math operation.
  2. Click Math Operations.
  3. The Math Operations dialog appears.

  4. Click a button to apply the corresponding operation.

    Click:
    To:

    Negate

Negate (inverse) the selected keyframes (57 becomes -57, -125 becomes +125, etc.). Negate only works on channels that can have negative and positive values. For example, you cannot negate the Opacity channel since there is no such thing as negative opacity.

    Reverse

Move keyframes so that they animate backwards.

    Average

Apply a weighted average to the selected channel or group of keyframes.

When you select Average, an Over field appears. Enter the divisor for the average operation in this field.

    Simplify

Reduce the number of points to the lowest possible number while preserving the original shape of the curve.

    Scale

Scale the selected keyframes or channel. You can scale the horizontal axis and the vertical axis separately.

When you click this button, the H and V fields appear. Enter the scale factors in these fields.

    Remove Jitter

Remove jitter from selected keyframes or channels.

    Randomize

Adjust the value randomly at the selected keyframes. When you click this button, the Amount field appears.

This operation randomly shifts the values at each keyframe up or down within the value you enter in the Amount field.

    Convert

Create real keyframes out of extrapolated channels.

For instance, you have a channel that loops at the end. If you run the Convert math operation on that channel, you can choose to convert any number of repetitions of that loop into keyframes which you can then edit.

  5. If necessary, enter the operation parameters.
  6. Enable Preview Changes to see the how the selected keyframes are changed by the operation without closing the Math Operations dialog.
  7. Click Apply to apply the operation to the selected channel or keyframes.
