

Paolo Carosi (Pisa, 1959) Received his diploma at the Liceo Scientifico of Pisa in 1978
and in flute at the Conservatory L.Boccherini of Lucca in 1979. He improved his flute skill
at the Accademia Chigiana of Siena with Severino Gazzelloni (1979 and 1980). He passed
the examination of harmony, counterpoint and fugue at the Conservatory L.Boccherini of
Lucca in 1988.
In 1985 he attended to a seminar on Music and Computer Science at the
School of Music of Fiesole (FI) with Sylviane Sapir, Roberto Doati e Mauro Graziani. He
completed the course of Compuer Science and Music at the Studio di Fonologia Musicale
at the Conservatory L.Cherubini of Florence with Pietro Grossi and Lelio Camilleri
(1985..1988). In 1987 he attended to a seminar about Orchestral Conducting held by
Angelo Cavallaro. He conducted the ensemble of wind
instruments of Filarmonica Pisana for 12 years.
He teaches flute at the school of music
Filarmonica Pisana since 1980. As a member of the Computer Music Department of
CNUCE/CNR of Pisa starting from 1988, he teaches in seminars about composition and
computer music, composes and performes electronic music and creates software for music
and graphics. At present he teaches music and computer science in the state school. About
this topic he realized, together with E.Borromeo, a experimental project called I.M.P.A.R.A.
(learn) to introduce computers as a medium to teach the subjects of compulsory school. He
writes essays and teaches in seminars and training courses about didactics and computer.
He developed two original interfaces to be used in computer music performance: Light Baton and Shine
Hands.
