Bob Marley
Robert "Bob" Nesta Marley OM (6 February 1945 - 11 May 1981) was the
lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist of The Wailers (1964-1974) and
Bob Marley & The Wailers (1974-1981). He helped to popularize Jamaican music with
songs like "No Woman, No Cry", "Jamming", "One Love"
(named song of the millennium by The BBC), "Exodus", "Could You Be Loved",
"I Shot The Sheriff", "Redemption Song", "Stir It Up",
"Three Little Birds", "Buffalo Soldier",? "Iron Lion Zion". He has
been awarded the Peace Medal of the Third World from the UN (1978), the
Jamaican Order of Merit (1981), and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award
(2001). He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1994), and ranked
#11 in RS' list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time (2004).
