The Only Band That Matters!
THE FUTURE IS UNWRITTEN ~ REVOLUTION ROCK ~ IGNORE ALIEN ORDERS
~ OUT OF CONTROL ~ WHITE RIOT ~ KNOW YOUR RIGHTS
~ SANDINISTA! ~ THE ARMAGIDEON TIMES ~ URGENT!
One of the most successful and iconic bands from the original wave of Punk Rock in the
late 1970s, they went on to incorporate Punk Rock with Reggae, Dub, Rockabilly, R&B,
Dance, Jazz, Ska, Hip-Hop, New Wave, World Music, Latin, R&B, Dance, Jazz, Ska and many
other music styles into their repertoire. Their intense stage performances were
legendary.
From their earliest days as a band, The Clash stood apart from their punk peers
with their musicianship, as well as their lyrics. The passionate, left wing political
idealism in the lyrics of the best frontmen and songwriter on planet Earth,
Joe Strummer, the musical skill of Mick Jones and Topper Headon, the
artistical talent of Paul Simonon together with the contributions of many other
friends, contrasted with the anarchic nihilism of the Sex Pistols or the basic simplicity
of The Ramones.
Their third album, the late 1979 release London Calling is one of the
greatest albums in the history of music, and, a decade later, Rolling Stone
magazine declared it the best album of the 1980s. In 2003, the same magazine also placed
London Calling at #8 on their list of the
500 Greatest Albums Of All Time list.
The Clash's attitude and style, as much as their music, strongly influenced
countless other bands. In 2003 they were inducted into the
Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.
