HALLOWEEN

   Whitches, ghost, skeletons, monsters: these are just some of the things that make Halloween. The word Halloween means Holy Evening and refers to the evening of October 31st. In the past people stayed at home on Halloween because they believed that ghost and whitches roamed freely on that evening.  Now on Halloween children dress up in ugly masks and outfits. In the U.S.A. they play "trick or treat" this means that they go from house to house asking. their neighbours for a treat usually sweets. It they do not receive a treat: they may play a nasty  trick on the people who live in that house for example they may empty the dustbin in the garden. This tradition has now become popular in Britain too.

   Streghe, fantasma, scheletri, mostri: queste sono alcune delle cose che si fanno ad  Halloween. La parola Halloween significa  "Santa Notte" e si riferisce alla sera del 31 ottobre. Nel passato la gente stava a casa per Halloween  perchè credeva che i  fantasmi e  le streghe vagavano liberi in quella sera. Ora per Halloween i ragazzi si vestono con brutte maschere e costumi. Negli Stati Uniti essi giocano a " dolcetto o scherzetto". Questo significa che essi vanno nelle case e chiedono ai loro vicini di casa una ricompensa, di solito i dolci. Se essi non ricevono una ricompensa essi possono giocare un brutto scherzo alle persone che vivono in quella casa per esempio essi possono svuotare la pattumiera nel giardino. Questa tradizione è diventata adesso popolare in Gran Bretagna
