On an isolated mount near Begna stream there is the remains of the old Sant'Alberto abbey. The altitude is 700 meters s.l.m. In Medieval build an abbey around a church built, many years before, by a hermit. This abbey was a cultural and religious heart of Malaspina feuds (XVIII century). Near the abbey there were many wars and many important people visited it like Barbarossa. Gregory VII spoke about the abbey in a letter in 1073. In this year dead the first abbot of Sant'Alberto. Probably in 1300 Edward II dead in the abbey of Sant'Alberto and his remains are near of Sant'Alberto's remains. This valley was rich of feuds, castles and mills. The abbot was the most important person in the valley. In the XVI century pope Leone X joined the abbey with San Bartolomeo in Strada abbey. After this, Sant'Aberto abbey lost its importance.The abbey built like a castle with strong walls and it is isolated in the valley. There were two towers but only one survives at the wars. This tower is composing of big block of sandstone. On the east side is possible seeing the loop-hole. The tower was cut off and, in 1849, on that built a modern tower bell.
