Pilo class

Giuseppe Cesare Abba
(1838-1910) Italian poet and patriot. He was in the Mille expedition with Garibaldi and fought in the Battles of Calatafimi and Volturno. Then he retired, becoming a teacher and a poems writer.
Giuseppe Dezza
(1830-1898) Italian patriot. He fought during the Second War of Independence and with the Mille expedition. He ascended the military ranks, becoming a senator in 1889.
Giuseppe Missori
(1829-1911) Italian patriot. He fought during the 1848 insurrection of Milan, and was with Garibaldi, whose life he saved at Milazzo.
Antonio Mosto
(1824-1890) Italian patriot. He was active during the Wars of Independence as a soldier and as mediator between Mazzini and the king.
Ippolito Nievo
(1831-1861) Italian writer and patriot. He was one of the Mille under Garibaldi. In his masterpiece "Confessions of an Italian" he depicts the age of the Wars of Independence.
Fratelli Cairoli
The five Cairoli brothers (Benedetto, Ernesto, Luigi, Enrico and Giovanni) were all Italian patriots and fought during the Wars of Independence. The older, Benedetto, became Prime Minister in 1878.
Rosolino Pilo
(1820-1860) Italian patriot. He was an active follower of Mazzini and a member of the Mille expedition. He died in the battle of San Martino.
Simone Schiaffino
Italian patriot, he was one of the component of the Mille expedition.

La Masa class

Angelo Bassini
(1815-1883) Italian patriot. He deserted from the Austrian army and fought in the first War of Independence. He then commanded the 8th Company during the Mille expedition.
Giacinto Carini
(1821-1880) Italian patriot. He fought during 1848-49 Sicilian revolution against the Bourbons. After his exile in London and Paris, he came back to join with Garibaldi's expedition. He became a lieutenant general in the army of the Kingdom of Italy.
Enrico Cosenz
(1820-1898) Italian patriot. He fought during the siege of Venice (1848) and with Garibaldi's army. Later, he became an army general and commander in chief of the Italian army.
Nicola Fabrizi
(1804-1885) Italian patriot. He was an active supporter of the Italian unification, as a politician and as a soldier.

(1819-1881) Italian patriot. He was at the head of the Sicilian revolution of 1848; after the Bourbons restoration he was exiled. Later he joined the Mille expedition, and became a general of the Italian army. .
Giacomo Medici
(1819-1882) Italian patriot. He fought during the second and third War of Independence, where he was awarded a gold medal and the title of marquis. He later became a senator of the Italian Kingdom.

(1817-1889) Italian general and patriot. After the 1848 Sicilian revolution, he was one of the Mille. In 1860 he became Minister of War and the Navy.
Francesco Stocco
(1806-1880) Italian patriot. He fought during the 1848 revolution, and he was amember of the Mille expedition as a lieutenant general.

Generali class

Generale Antonio Cantore
(1860-1915) Major general of the Italian army. He commanded alpine brigade during World War I; he died in action during a bold reconnaissance of the Tofane, and was awarded a gold medal.
Generale Antonino Cascino
(1863-1917) General of the Italian army. He was an artillery officer, brigadier in 1916 and major general in 1917. During the First World War, he was killed by a grenade and was awarded the gold medal.

Generale Marcello Prestinari
(1847-1916) General of the Italian army. He fought in the Italian war in Eritrea in 1895, and the he retired. During World War I he received the command of a brigade. He was killed during a retreat and was awarded the gold medal.
