Roma 21 giugno 1846 - 14 febbraio 1911
e parrucca.
A Bologna,
Belle Arti in Perugia.
in Inghilterra.
The father Charles, English painter established since 1835 definitely
to Rome was teacher (soon overcame), and then completing the studies to
the Academy of San. Luca As the father, was seduced from the Roman Country
("that little that I do", it was accustomed to say, "it is everything spontaneous
fruit of what I believe a hereditary illness") but to the beginnings, when
debuts with a representative picture a herd of buffalos in the pontine
Swamps, the criticisms and the hilarity of the followers of Fortuny, pushed
him to paint for some years, according to the fashion of the time, eighteenth-century
riders with rapier and wig. Well soon he returned to paint from the true,
influenced from Carlandi and from Alessandro Castelli inspiring to the
same themes of Giuseppe Raggio treated with sought after pleasantness.
Of meditative nature preferred in Rome the Roman Country that visited in
all of his characteristic angles and melancolic remaining fascinated by
the grandeur of the tragic loneliness of that earth, and from the atmosphere
that it found to you, withdrawing with passion and interest of it the most
genuine and less known, humbler and serene aspects, looking above all at
his inhabitants and the animals, to which it devoted numerous studies and
it withdrew with extraordinary naturalistic surrender, almost succeeding
in gathering its character. In 1875 was named real partner of the
of the “Acquerellisti Romani Society” and three years later also the Real
Society of the Belgian Acquerellistis named him honorary Limb for its so
spontaneous pictures and at same time emanteing a vigorous expressive power.
To Bologna, at the 1888 Alpine National exposure, He get the gold medal
and in 1902 he was named Academic of worth in Belle's Arti academy in Perugia.
In 1904 finally it was among the founders of the group of the nicknamed
" XXVs " the Burmese “ and the 10 June of the same year he was proclaimed
Capoccetta of the Country Roman life natural during, or rather the chief
of the movement, what attested for his it operates completely dedicated,
with that innate naturalism, to the stately and melancholy aspects of the
Country and particularly to the men and the animals of the Agro. He Kept
English nationality, perhaps to protect to him from the intrusiveness of
the State of the Church, but he remained always in Rome without never going
to England. Over the painting it loved hunting, the mountaineering (in
the 1907 were named partner of the C.A.I.) and the botany, which devoted
studies and sketches on the orchids of the Country Roman. Landscapist of
the Agro one withdrew with great naturalistic qualities the desolate and
wild aspects of the vast and solitary low lands what they surrounded Rome
from every side and scenes of animals - above all horses and buffalos -
under the officer control of the pockmarks from the cone hats and from
the fleecy pants, cultured in their demonstrations of vital animalità
and I made always with loving naturalism and in unchangeable schemes. It
treated with success both the oil that the water-color reaching in this
last technique a man suggestive representative effectiveness to be had
an international fame of it. Also engraved to the etching a series of views
of the Country Roman and of the sour pontino. It exposed in Turin in 1880
("Flood of the Roman Country") revealing himself/herself/itself to the
public, confirming later success the year to Milan (''Vole, madam"?), to
Rome in 1883 (" Timorpanico "), to Bologna in 1888 and then in all the
Biennal exhibitions in Venice up to 1910 and to Paris, always with success
and recognitions. A lot of his/her works are you preserve in the National

marble").
