Serra San Quirico 20 settembre 1879 -Roma 28 marzo 1957
He began the artistic studies to the academy of Belle Arti of Rome where
student of Phillip Prosperi and Dario Querci it was. Unsatisfied of the
academician teaching stopped studies and, encouraged by Onorato Carlandi,
of which he suffered the charm and the influence,it started to study from
the true one and, also not being "Romano de Rome"(a real roman), he was
seduced by his latent love for the Country Roman, that became the favorite
field of his pictorial excursions. To twenty debuts exposing to the Show
of the "Amateurs and Students of Belle Arti" of Rome and then, in 1903,
participating in the Italian exposure to Pietroburgo. From here it is everything
a to follow him of Shows: to Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Milan and
Venice where it had uninterruptedly participated since 1905 to 1920 (he
exposes, besides, "Under the lamp-post", "gold reflexes", " The Palatino
", " Memoirs ", " Sunset "). he Belonged to the group of the" XXV " with
the nickname of “straight” for the restlessness with which it sought the
" place " whether to systematize his easel for to take back the subject
chosen, perhaps to get a beautiful perspective cut, a good game of lights
or to seek the violence of the sun that, if it destroyed the particular
ones, the zones it made however more suggestive in shade and the chiaroscuris
("The Circeo and the ancient one I bring Roman to Terracina", "Tevere toward
the mouth") .He was a member of the " of the Roman Acquerellistis Society
" and he was selected as teacher of sketch and painting of the Reals Umbertos,
Jolanda, Mafalda and Giovanna of Savoia, charge covered for over twenty
years.
As painter is almost exclusively interested in the landscapes
in Rome, of the Country, of the Swamps wine cellars up to Terracina, withdrawing,
vivacious colorista and pleasantly decorative, the characteristic wine
wheelbarrows, the animals of the “agro”, the flowers, paunchy vases and
rustic crocks, the harbours the insides and figures. he has painted to
oil, crayon , temper and water-colour (great technical ability and the
instinctive sense of the cut of the picture that it neglected the whole
to gather and to underline the particular). He knew how to take advantage
of the peculiar possibilities offered by the colours diluted with the water
getting with this difficult technique stupendous effects of light and shades,
with delicate transparencies and transparencies, also preserving the plasticity
of the subjects, so much that Antonio Mancini underlined sincerity, the
safety of brushed, the harmony of colours and finds the idea of the composition
that always was in his works ("You source of the melancholy", "The Bridge
Aniene Mammolo"). He was also acquafortista (etching) and loving, more
than the linear sketch, the chiaroscuro, that better became effect of the
light and of the shades in the plasticity of the pictorial vision, engraved
some particularly effective acquetintes that exalted the depth of the image,
helped in the execution of such technique by the intelligent and sensitive
wife Lina.
Works of him can be found in the National Gallery
of Modern art in Rome (“Landscape “, “Roman Country “ " Almonds harvest
"), in the Museum in Boston ("San Marco"), while other pictures were acquired
by the King ("Plenilunio in the Valley of the Aniene", "The arbour of Ancona"),
from the Regina Margherita (“ Tramonto a Terracina”, “Canale a Terracina”),
from the Zar of Russia ("Abbey of St. Vittore" )e from Hitler ("Street
of the Triumphs").
