JOHN DEACON

John Richard Deacon was born on August 19th 1951 in Oadby, Leicester, to parents Arthur Henry and Lilian Deacon. He started at Oadbyn Infants School in 1956, going on to Gartree High School. He started at Beauchamp Grammar School, Leicester in 1962. His first instrument was the rythm guitar, he then learned bass guitar and joined his first band 'Opposition'. His first public gig was at Enderby Youth Club in Leicester. John left school in 1969 with eight 'O' levels and three 'A' levels.
He attended Chelsea College in London to study Electronics. He eventually achieved two 'S' levels in Physics and Maths and a First Class Honours degree in electronics. In 1971 he joined Freddie Mercury, Brain May and Roger Taylor.
