Maura Saddi was born March 8, 1959 in Carbonia on the island of Sardinia.
In the 1980’s she left her university studies in law to dedicate herself to painting. Having passed through an initial descriptive phase, Saddi began to focus on geometric abstraction. Her first exhibit was presented in 1979.
Since 1993, she has been revising the preparations of her work recognizing the different connotations according to the context exhibited.
In 1993, she met Ermanno Leinardi. In 1994, she carried out large scale mural paintings.
Starting in 1994 Saddi began taking a series of trips during which time she encountered artists of various nationalities, visiting their studios. During these trips, she attended exhibitions and museums, which allowed her to analyze the new tendencies in modern art- Paris 1994, New York 1995, London 1996, Switzerland and New York 1997, Berlin 2002, and Paris 2004.
In 1995 she began her expressive experience with the group "Concrete" directed by Ermanno Leinardi. In 1996, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Villanovarforru acquired a painting where it was presented Leinardi’s catalogue.
In 1996, Saddi began to experiment with graphic language carrying out a series of serigraphs recognizing the potential of the language referring to current research. Several editions of two portfolios, each with four serigraphs, followed in 1999 and 2000 and another of four pieces in black and white in 2004. The graphic work satisfied the compulsory need for planning activity. In 1997, after research of space at once empty and wide open and following the disempowerment of color, Saddi moved on to black and white highlighting a series of signs. In 1997, she exhibited her work in Switzerland.
From 1996 to 2002 Saddi participated in various exhibitions promoted by the "Man Ray" Center of Contemporary Artistic Experimentation in Cagliari: "Equilibriums and tensions" on the occasion of Ermanno Leinardi’s conversation "Conversing with C. Malevic"; "Elegy of White" (1999), "Artist’s Toy" (1999), and "Rooms 2002" curated and presented in catalogue by Alessandra Mensini; "Stop of Time" (2002) curated by Mariolina Cosseddu.
In 1998 Saddi participated in the show "Constructed Art" presented in catalogue by Gianella Demuro with Ode Bertrand, Charles Bezie, Jean François Dubreuil, Gottfied Honegger, Ermanno Leinardi, Dionigi Losengo, Marina Madeddu, Aurélie Nemour, Yves Popet, Henri Prosi, Torsten Ridell, Mauro Salvi, Michel Seuphor, and Giancarlo Zucca. After the exhibit "Constructed Art", the province of Sassari acquired two of Saddi’s pieces for the collection of Contemporary Art where it is also present in collection’s catalogue.
In 2000 Saddi established her own studio "Studiospace" (Spaziostudio) located in the Piazza Venezia in Cortoghiana- mining allocation planned by the architect Saverio Muratori, having risen in the vicinity of the mine’s namesake. The Piazza, a large L-shaped space is characterized by a dimensional order and a strong, rich expression of spatial suggestions with respect to the geometric demands. In 2003, Saddi founded, with Dionigi Losengo and Marina Madeddu, the group 1+1+1 with the presentation of Paolo Sirena. Saddi then exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art "Sa Corona Arrubia" with the acquisition of a piece in the division of Contemporary Art.
Also in 2003, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Calasetta acquired one of Saddi’s works for their permanent collection. She met Peter Staechelin, recently disappeared, on the occasion of her personal show which was held simultaneously in two different locations of the Museum of Contemporary Art at Calasetta. She also met Hiroshi Harada who visited her in her studio.
In 2004, the Civic Museum of Taverna acquired a work for the Contemporary Art sector, positively recognized for its resolved validity of creative research. She has been invited to participate with three bookmarks in the Editorial Project of Bookmarks (Ilisso edition) with catalogue in progress.
Additionally in 2004 she exhibited in Paris, "A Poetic of Reason" ("Une Poétique de la Raison") with Ode Bertrand, Eleonor, Ermanno Leinardi , Remy Matsukura, Efisio Niolu, Isabelle Prade and Salazar. Here she met the critic Fernand Fournier. During her stay she visited the studios of both Bèzie and Malla.
The mayor of Carbonia invited her to expose her work in the civic tower: personal exhibition "Re/costructions" with the presentation of her catalogue.
In 2005, she participated to the 59° Salon Rèalitès Nouvelles in the Floral Park of Paris. During her stay she visited the studios of Prosi and Salazar.
Presently she lives, works and teaches in Cortoghiana.
