As an autonomous ensemble, the Italian
Chamber Orchestra® was established in 1999 on the
initiative of Luca Benucci, principal horn of the Orchestra
del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and some renowned first
players of Italian and foreign orchestras such as: orchestra
del Teatro alla Scala (Milan), Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale
Rai, Orchestra di Santa Cecilia (Roma), Bayerisches Rundfunk,
Orchestre Nationale of Lyon.
Giuseppe Sinopoli was its honorary president up to his
death; his encouragement, and the friendship between members,
allowed them to form an elitist ensemble, of excellent
musical level, able to blend their different individual
experiences and express high level interpretations.
These musicians have collaborated with some of the gratest
present-day conductors, such as Zubin Mehta, Riccardo
Muti, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Berhard Haiting, Simon Rattle,
Wolfgang Sawallish, Georges Pretre, M.W. Chung, C. Abbado,
P. Boulez, and performed all over the world in orchestras
such as the Israel Philharmonic, Berliner Philharmoniker,
London Symphony, Wiener Symphoniker.
The Italian Chamber Orchestra® aims at forming an
ensemble of high professional and artistic level, whose
repertory, besides the most commonly performed literature
for chamber orchestra, includes more rare pages and new
compositions, often specially written for them. Some renowned
musicians collaborate with the I.C.O.: Daniel Stabrawa
and Albrecth Majer of the Berliner Philharmoniker, Dale
Clevenger of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as soloist
and conductor, Daniel Nazareth, and others.
The I.C.O. has been a guest ensemble in festivals and
seasons. Here are some of the most important.
In 1999 it has been invited to perform at the Salle Gaveau
in Paris. Then it played at the "Teatro del Buonumore"
of the Conservatory L. Cherubini of Florence, where it
recorded its first CD with music by Mozart under Dionisios
Dervis Bournuas, its principal conductor at that time.
Yukio Kitahara (NHK Tokio) contributed to the growth of
the orchestra, and was appointed principal conductor since
2000. From that year, the I.C.O. is the Residence Orchestra
of the international festival "Santa Fiora in Musica",
and was invited to make tournees in the U.S. and Japan.
The Italian Chamber Orchestra® succeeded in getting
the attention of the public and the critics, because of
the value of its members and also for its organization
efficiency. |
