                                Expertise, main areas and activities

 

Scarabeus is a no profit Association in Livorno (Tuscany- Italy) involved in projecting and in organizing educational activities and training  paths in favour of adult people and of disadvantaged social groups in a perspective of life long learning.

 

The first area includes art, ceramic, music, languages and multimedia courses aiming to help adult people in maintaining and updating theirs kills to play a permanent social active role. As well as guidance and orienteering activities are carried out to help young adults to clear and to pursuit their vocational project.

The second area regards projecting and organizing vocational training paths, addressed to disadvantaged  groups and aiming their social re-enter.

At this level Scarabeus is carrying out an innovative training path, “Making histories together”, implemented in a multimedia course addressed to persons in prison and finalized to their vocational qualification in computer skills. Municipality, schools and no profit associations are its partners in local projects in adult education field.

     Scarabeus is involved as Training Agency in five Grundtvig projects. Two projects in favour of         socially disadvantaged groups are:

-          “Right to learn” finalized to social and work reintegration of young adults at risk of social               exclusion

-         “Women and Power”, finalized to the promotion of equality  between men and women in favour      of blind and immigrant women

     Other three projects aim to the culture and training adults’ improvement:

-         “Educational Triangles” aiming to the improvement of cultural services addressed to adults through better connections among Museums, Libraries and Adult Education Organizations in a vision of Life Long Learning

-         “Self-training and Open Distance Learning” aiming, finalized to create self-training modules  with ODL phases, to the elaboration of a methodology of work and of a new pedagogical approach quality card and to  the achievement of an educational web-site

-          “A new concept of occupational training” finalized to the young people employment and to their continuous  vocational updating.

Scarabeus is also involved in two Comenius projects (2003-2004) for students from 11 to 13. These projects are carried out  in collaboration with “G. Micali” State School in Livorno.

The first one is aimed to make students work on Water Resource. German, French, Polish, Spanish and Italian students will work about it. The second one is an Art project to make students know and work on the Art of other European Countries.
