SUMMARY:
In a European family, more broadly understood as urban Europe, a young urban girl mourns for her fiancé who has been killed in Sarajevo during the occupation. The girl's entire family mourns with her, and the mourning is taking place in some European city the day before the funeral of the young man. The large family gathers around the coffin in which the young man has been laid.

The play won 3rd prize, shared on an equal basis with Ivana Sajko, in the Ministry of Culturre's Marin Drzic contest for 2000. The play has been translated into English.

MILKO VALENT (Zagreb, 1948) earned his degree in Philosophy and Comparative Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. He has been writing and publishing professionally since Autumn, 1976, as follows: poetry, philosophy, short prose, novels, polemics, essays, theatre criticism, pageants, radio plays, and plays. To date, he has published eighteen books, five radio plays (all performed), and one pageant. His book of plays, Drums and Lace, was published in 2000. He has been a member of the Croatian Philosophy Society since 1976; the Croatian Writer's Association since 1981; the Croatian Centre of PEN since 1992; and the Croatian Centre of ITI-UNESCO since 1995.
