In Sardinia the series of popular and country Festivals that begin with
the arrival of Spring continue through June. In large and small villages,
both inland and on the coast, every annual celebration is a wonderful
opportunity to parade in traditional costumes and perform folk dances
and musical concerts to attract the attention and interest of travelers
and tourists (

The arrival of Spring and Summer also coincides with the fishing season
in the coastal towns. In the narrow strait of sea between Carloforte -- the
principle city on the island of San Pietro -- and Portoscuso, located
across the strait, in the Southwest corner of Sardinia, that period between
the end of May and the beginning of June is characterized by the tuna crossing.
The tuna hunt is a cruel ritual even though it is tied to an ancient
industry upon which depended the lives of many fishermen and their
families from the area. It is, nevertheless, an event as
well, attracting hundreds of tourists every year. This is why we are
proposing it as one of the most popular activities in the vast panorama
of events connected to the traditions and culture of the region.
