Imagine Aerosmith with more adventurous song structures but without the acute pop sensibility and you have some idea of the basic style of this Boston four-piece's second album. Metal-funk describes most of the tracks, and very well played it is too. The timing of the stops and starts on Decadence Dance and When I'm President(the two most immediate tracks) is quite stunning. But elsewhere this tightness gives way to the fatuous complexity that was often associated with progressive music. Throw in some weird sound effects, a totally straight Cole Porter-alike ballad (When I First Kissed You), and one perfectly enjoyable Labi Siffre impersonation (More Than Words), and you have a very energetic, if confused and baffling record indeed. --Andrew Martin -- © Emap Consumer Magazines Limited.
