- Già autori dell'omonimo
debutto per la Record Heaven nel 2003, gli svedesi Violent Silence si sono
adesso accasati presso la Progress records ed hanno pubblicato il loro secondo
album intitolato "Kinetic".
Il parco strumenti manca sorprendentemente della chitarra, sostituita da
una tastiera aggiuntiva e questa peculiarità, oltre a non costituire
un limite, addirittura rende la loro musica ancor più particolare
e distintiva; questa si pone a metà strada tra il prog sinfonico
scandinavo, cioè dalle tipiche sfumature plumbee e malinconiche ed
il prog-metal melodico sia per alcune accelerazioni ritmiche che per la
costante ricerca di una melodia fluida e pomposa.
In realtà, ciò che più conta è la qualità
delle composizioni che, con le sole eccezioni dei due estremi "Morning
Star" e "Homesick", si attestano tutte abbondantemente sopra
la media, con una speciale menzione per la title-track, "Torrential
Rains" e per "Quiet Stalker". Quest'ultimo è il brano
più lungo ed anche il più interessante: in mancanza di una
chitarra, il pianoforte ed i sintetizzatori si inseguono incessantemente
in un turbinio sonoro corposo e dinamico; la melodia portante è azzeccata
oltreché ottimamente cantata da Bruno Edling ma è il caso
di sottolineare anche la prestazione maiuscola del batterista Johan Hedman
che ci mette del suo a rendere la composizione ancor più varia ed
eccitante.
Nel complesso "Kinetic" è un disco da consigliare, perché
foriero di linee melodiche ispirate, dotato di una sua complessità
di fondo ma anche di un'invidiabile scorrevolezza; per questo affianca senza
problemi il disco dei Magic Pie come migliore realizzazione della Progress
records nel 2005. E proprio alla label svedese va un grosso plauso per la
politica che sta adottando di puntare più sulla qualità che
sulla quantità: "Kinetic" ha dunque chiuso più che
degnamente il suo esercizio 2005.

2003 debut cd for Record Heaven, the swedish band Violent Silence moved
to Progress records and released their second album called "Kinetic".
If you read the line-up of the band you immediately notice the lack of a
guitar player and an additional keyboards player: besides not being a negative
point, I think the double keyboards can give their music a certain kind
of originality. Their music style is half-way between the typical scandinavian
symphonic prog, that is plenty of darkish and melancholic shadings, and
the melodic prog-metal due to some accelerations and several pompous melodies.
In any case, the most important and positive thing regarding "Kinetic"
is the high quality of almost all the tracks with the only exceptions of
"Morning Star" and "Homesick" though they can be considered
more as an intro and outro than two real songs.
"Kinetic", "Torrential Rains" and "Quiet Stalker"
deserve a very special mention, especially "Quiet Stalker": this
is the longest and most interesting song, where the lack of guitar lines
is balanced with the piano and synths making a breathtaking duet throughout
the track. Bruno Edling sings so well the wonderful melodic lines and Johan
Hedman is not really a scholastic drummer.
Well, "Kinetic" is a recommended album in my opinion, because
of its highly inspired melodic lines, gifted with an overall complexity
but absolutely enjoyable by a large number of progressive fans. Together
with the Magic Pie album, it's definitly the best Progress records album
of 2005 and all my admiration just goes to this swedish label, whose policy
to put the quality before the quantity is rewarding its job.
