Come nasce il nome d'arte

           How Terry-Thomas Changed his   professional name

In '30 years during his first experience,

Thomas invent his artistical name.

 Reverse his surname and his name Tom Stevens in 

Mot Snevets.      

The surname emerge very difficult, 

and the people call him Mot.           

He return again Tom Stevens.

 But his fan call him Mr.Stevens 

and him find all very cold.    

He was one different relationship with his fan. 

Also used a name Thos.    

In '40 years he used his first and second name 

Thomas Terry.              

The fame arrived and the journalist torment him

 with questions about his relation with the 

english actress Ellen Terry.   

Thomas very tired to say "no",

 change is name reverse the two name Terry-Thomas. 

 The space between the two name, symbolize 

the gap in his teeth.           

Terry was very angry with the journalist

 that used his name 

without the space between the two name,

 because he said 

"exist one million the Terry Thomas in the world 

but only one Terry-Thomas" 

and he said at his fan 

" please, don't call me Mr. Terry-Thomas or Mr. Thomas....

I am Terry-Thomas for you..... not use Mr."

Negli  anni '30, anni d'inizio della sua vita artistica, Thomas aveva inventato un nome d'arte.  Invertendo parte del suo nome e il suo cognome si fece chiamare Mot Snevets (Tom Stevens).

 Il cognome risultò impronunziabile così la gente lo chiamò Mot. 

Allora invertì nuovamente le lettere tornando Tom Stevens.                 Il pubblico lo chiamava Mr. Stevens e a lui tutto questo sembrava troppo freddo...voleva una relazione diversa con i suoi fan.

Si fece chiamare Thos. 

Negli anni '40 usò il suo nome per intero Thomas Terry.

Diventato famoso però, i giornalisti lo assillarono con domande circa la presunta parentela con l'attrice inglese Ellen Terry 

(avendo dedotto che il nome di battesimo Terry fosse il suo cognome). 

Stanco di dare spiegazioni, cambiò nuovamente il nome d'arte invertendo i due nomi di battesimo.

Diventò Terry-Thomas.

  Il trattino fra i due nomi simboleggiava lo spazio 

fra i suoi due denti incisivi.     

 Era solito riprendere tutti coloro che usavano il Mr. davanti al suo nome  e chi non lo scriveva senza il trattino.       

  "Per favore" - diceva - "non chiamatemi Mr. Terry-Thomas o Mr. Thomas "- aggiungeva con un sorriso - " io sono semplicemente Terry-Thomas ...e per favore  scrivete il mio nome con il trattino.... molte persone si chiamano Terry Thomas... 

ma c'è un solo Terry  trattino  Thomas. "
