Dear Roberta
I am continually being asked for my memories of Terry-Thomas.....
mainly by people who are setting out to write a biography.
I'm afraid I disappoint them all.
Terry was a verey entertaining & charming man but we seldom, if ever,
socialised outside the studios.
We moved in a different circles.
He was fun and caused much laughter on the set, but I seem to remember
than he often had trouble memorising his lines.
He was very much a dandy a festidious & smart dresser.
Always a red carnation in his buttonhole which was delivered to his hime daily,
& he had a vast collection of fancy & elegant waistcoats, he was always very
smartly turned out. Trés chic!
I didn't know him after our series of films together came to a end in the late 50's,
but because of his deterieting healt I believe he became a very sad figure.
Luckily I never saw him in that condition.
It was, I'm told, a very depressing sight.
Yours Sincerely
Ian Carmichael.
