My wife's family lived in a basement as a family in-service in Kensington

in the late 1950's, early 1960's. At one point the house was uf for sale

and she remembers Terry-Thomas coming to view the house.

He bounded up the steps 3 at a time.

He was wearing a navy blu blazer and a cravatte, he looked very dapper.

He decided not to buy the house or they would have ended up working for him.

I talked to someone once about T-T and he told me about his father telling a story

about T-T doing a cabaret act at the works social club one night.

He said he spent all night cadging cigarettes off people in the club.

They couldn't work out whether it was part of his act.
