Karl Hugo Schmolz was introduced young to the world of the photo; in fact his father Hugo Scmolz was an affirmed photographer of architecture. Since from when he was 15 years-old, he started to follow the father in his activity.

He made his first photos for architects affirmed like Adolf Abel, Bruno Paul, Rudolf Schwarz.

When his father died, he was able to continue fatherly activity in the society Fotowerstatte Hugo Schmolz without any interruption.

At the explosion of the second world war he was forced to abandon the activity of photographer to enlist in the German army, but at the end of the war, testified using a big format camera the cold and glacial destruction of his country.

Famous in such sense was the joining between his photos of Colony and those made by the father during the years rwenty and thirty.

In his photographic file there there is every type of photo, since in his activity he was approached to all the kinds, from the photo of architecture to that of design, notalso disdaining aspects of daily life in Germany, but without never betraying, in the choice of the shots, in the clean contrasts, his orignis of architectural photographer.

His ability was also expressed in the photo of furnishing and home-decor.

After his marriage with the photographer Walde Hut, he transformed his society in Schmolz + Huth, specialized in the fashion-photo and in the portrait.

His last job was the Museum Ludwig of Colony withdrawing, but unfortunately death gathered him before finishing the work.
