JENNY'S CORNER - SUSSEX DOWNS

July 2004

You will probably have heard from Don Martin and others who came down from St John's for the Licensing of Father David to the beautiful church of St Andrew's with St Mary the Virgin's, Fletching on 1 June. But I would like to mark this wonderful `new chapter' as the Church Warden put it, in all of our lives, by making it the subject of this month's Jenny's Corner, which after all started up at St John's many moons ago and which finally seems to have come home to this beautiful part of Sussex. I shall certainly be tempted to abscond from my local church on the occasional Sunday to hear David preach once again! Preferably the 2nd Sunday of the month when the Church has apparently a Traidcraft stand - something that has been very close to my heart for many years.
I have sent Don Martin my set of photos taken, and an old school friend has promised to send me some she took of the exterior of this magnificent church which I will also forward to Don if I manage to scan them successfully!
The Service ended with a reception in the school and I managed to take a photo of Frank Millington trying to dodge out of the way with the background of the fairy lights and blue canopy! Also one of David with a glass of wine in his hand looking really cheerful!
It was a wonderful and uplifting service and it was very emotional for me to see so many of the old friends who had been so supportive of me in Upper Norwood. I hope some will be down this way again in the not too distant future now that you know where Father David and Susanna are, and can discover this beautiful part of Sussex for yourselves.
