Lord Shri Ganeshji is the remover of each obstacle; He's the Elephant-God, one of the most loved deities of the great Hindu pantheon.
He's the son of Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati.

The story connected with his birth and with his elephant's head is an interesting chapter in the Hindu mythology.

Lord Ganesh is depicted having four arms, because He's the universal ruler, establishing his power over the four categories of beings:
. who can live only in water
. who can live in water and earth
. who can live only in earth
. who can fly in the air.
The vehicle of Ganesh is a mouse, as a symbol of god's ability to destroy each obstacle.

As incarnation of wisdom, Ganesh is also seen as a scribe to whom sage Vyasa dictated the Mahabharata. He's also the patron of letters.
Lord Ganesh represents the unity of man, a small being, and the elephant, a great being. He's the fusion of the microcosm with the macrocosm, of a drop with the ocean, of an individual soul with the divine.

Kartikeya, god of the war, also known as Skanda, is His brother. Son of Lord Shiva, in the epics Mahabharata and Ramayana his motherhood is ascribed to Ganga; sometimes he's seen as son of Parvati, Shiva's wife.
