The idea of making a five stringed
violin, came from the need to enlarge the lower instrumental extension.
The addition of the fifth string (C), which for example is quite normal
for the double bass, is a unique example on the violin.

and was made in Cremona a long time ago under to Rik's scrupulous
direction.
