COMPETITION RULES

FOR YOUNG INSTRUMENTALIST

Regulation:

Art. 1
Musical Cultural Association "EURITMIA", in the aim of promoting musical culture, exchange of experiences among young instrumentalists coming from different cultures and speaking different languages, and in the aim of encouraging young people to study music, announces the "5th International Competition for Young Instrumentalists". Participation is garanted to all young instrumentalists born after the 1st january 1983, coming from state and private music schools or from band-oriented music courses.

Art. 2
Performances shall be public and divided into four categories:

CAT. A partecipants born after 1st january 1990;
CAT. B participants born in 1987 - 1988 - 1989;
CAT. C participants born in 1985 - 1986;
CAT. D participants born in 1983 - 1984;

Art. 3
The following instruments are entitled to the competition: FLUTE, OBOE, BASSOON, CLARINET, ALTO SAXOPHONE, TENOR SAXOPHONE, SOPRANO SAXOPHONE, TRUMPET, TROMBONE, FRENCH HORN, BARITONE FLUGELHORN, EUPHONIUM, BASS TUBA, DRUMS, XYLOPHONE AND VIBRAPHONE, MARIMBAPHONE, TIMPANI, ACCORDION, VIOLIN, GUITAR, PIANO and HARP.

Art. 4
Performances shall be held at the Multifunctional Gymnasium of the City of Povoletto, in Piazza Libertà, on FRYDAY 22rd, SATURDAY 23th and SUNDAY 24th JUNE 2001. Information concerning how to reach Povoletto, accommodation and restoration shall be sent to all applicants upon registration.

Art. 5
Participants considering their preparation fit for registration to a category exceeding their age limit may do so.

Art. 6
Participants shall present 2 excerpts, one chosen from the list annexed to this announcement and one chosen freely. Participants shall present 6 complete copies of each excerpt for the jury members. At the end of the competition, all copies shall be handed back to the participants except one which will be kept for the competition records.

Art. 7
Participants who do not have the original score with them shall be denied participation in the competition.

Art. 8
At the time of the performance, every participant shall present his/her identification document.

Art. 9
The Organising Committee will provide the piano, the percussion instruments, and two accompaniment pianists.

Art. 10
Participants are called to abide by the maximum time limits set for each category:

CAT. A 8 min.
CAT. B 10 min.
CAT. C 12 min.
CAT. D 15 min.

Participants who do not respect these limits shall be penalised by 5/100 for every extra minute.

Art. 11
The jury shall be composed by 7 members (3 italian, 4 foreign), conservatorium lecturers, instrumentalists, concert players and renowned members of the musical milieu. The committee members cannot grant admittance to the competition to their relatives or similar, or to students with whom they have public or private teaching relations. Upon establishment of the committee, every member will sign a statement in this respect.

Art. 12
The Organising Committee reserves the right to rule out a category should there be an insufficient number of participants for that specific category. Only in this specific case will the registration fee be reimbursed.

Art. 13
The jury reserves the right not to grant the envisaged awards and its decisions are final and irrevocable; the jury, however, reserves the right to request that a performance be repeated.

Art. 14
Registration to the competition implies unconditioned acceptance of the rules herein.

Art. 15
Three prizes are envisaged for each category. Every participant will receive a participation certificate bearing the mark he/she achieved on his/her performance. Participants achieving a mark over 80/100 will also receive a certificate of merit.

3rd prize Lit. 150.000

1st prize Lit. 800.000

3rd prize Lit. 350.000
CAT. D
1st prize Lit. 1.000.000

3rd prize Lit. 400.000

Prizes shall be subject to the existing tax laws.
The winner shall be the participant achieving a mark over 95/100, runner-up achieving a mark between 90/100 and 94/100, and third position achieving a mark between 85/100 and 89/100.

Art. 16
Under pain of being excluded from receiving their prize, the participants who received an award in the various categories are obliged to take part in the final winners concert scheduled to be held on Sunday 24th June at 8.00 p.m. The entire concert will be taped for the competition records.

Art. 17
Registration forms will have to be filled in according to the sample provided and sent before Maj 31th 2001, to the address given below together with an unstamped birth certificate. Registration fee amounts to Lit. 50,000 and may be paid via postal order or a "non-transferable" bank cheque to 'Segreteria Concorso Internazionale' c/o Degano Gianluca via Dante 16 I-33040 Povoletto (Udine).
