Welcome to Jally FAQ!
Q: I am a Netscape user, and I simply cannot run my downloaded Jally jar files: nothing happens if I try to execute them from my graphic interface, and I get error messages if I try to launch them from the command-line.
A: This is due to some weird behavior of Navigator, which somehow messes some downloaded files; to avoid this (without using Internet Explorer :-) !), if you are a Windows user, try to get the Uncook95 free program (use for example the search box below to find where to download it from), which takes as its input the messed file(s) and outputs the correctly restored files; after that, it all should work properly!
Q: I found an online gallery of works of my favourite
painter Teomondo Scrofolo; I fed Jally with the gallery URL and expected
it to download all the pics for me, but all I got was the image thumbnails
(or nothing if I set the "Minimum size" parameter to a reasonable value):
how can I make Jally work as I would expect?
A: With some galleries, each thumbnail is not
directly linked to the corresponding image, but to another page containing
the picture: so if you feed Jally with the gallery URL, you should set
the "Depth" parameter to 1 instead of 0.
Q: Even following the above suggestion, I'm not able to get any file
downloaded anyway: why doesn't Jally work?
A: Well, this may happen for two reasons, both of which prevent
Jally from operating correctly: the files or successive
pages may be linked from the starting page through JavaScript (not HTML), or the server where
files reside may accept requests from WWW browsers and simply reject all requests coming from
"download robots" (such as Jally); the first problem will be solved with the next version of
Jally, while the second is not so easy to address,,,
