Worldwords - Offer Me a Flower - The Colour of Life - The Celestial Bar - Come Hither

by Staci Backauskas, Annalisa Cara

This book provides another crucial step in helping the different entities sharing our planet to understand each other. Using words, traditions, greetings and expressions, Dr. La Cerva inspires us to learn more about the places and people with whom we share our planet, while neatly tying in their spiritual practices. Organized like a calendar, each day provides inspiration on a different subject by using facts and stories from a variety of cultures. October 9 tells you that in Thai, Tod kathin (toad kaht-heen) signifies the pilgrimage season when monks receive new robes. It then continues with an explanation of the pilgrimage tradition from the perspective of many cultures, including Buddhists, Christians, Muslims and Jews. At the end of each daily passage is a quote designed to reinforce the information provided. October 9's quote is "I respond to the call of a special sojourn." This book combines culture and spirituality to assist readers in their quest to find their own spiritual nectar. In addition, profits from this book benefit the HEAL foundation, a non-profit organization promoting positive changes in human relations through education and building community. Add five minutes to your daily spiritual practice and spend the time with the messages in this wonderful book. (S.B.)

Savitri L. Bess, a devotee of Mata Amritanandamayi, takes us on a fictional spiritual quest through the lush and temperate climate of Arizona. We travel with Luce, a young woman conflicted about whether to continue her studies in psychology, as she develops relationships and faces her demons with the help of The Mother. Luce first saw The Mother, a maternal vision who asks probing questions and provides spiritual guidance, when she was a child. Reappearing to assist Luce through her crisis of faith surrounding her education, The Mother encourages Luce to continue her search for the "immortal nectar." Written in a fluid, melodic cadence, Bess' book deliciously describes the desert and foliage of Arizona. As Luce tackles her journey, a step at time, she encounters her shadow as well as her light. Using wildlife and personality types as metaphors for the demons we all deal with, Bess accurately describes the conflicts, fears, joys and processes of human relationships and the spiritual journey of being human. The story is beautifully told and the message clear: Face your shadows, bask in your light and don 't ever stop searching. (S.B.)

We expected this book to be just another manual on the healing properties of colours and their effect on the human aura. Of course, Judith Collins -- a renowned healer and an authority on the subject in Australia -- provides us here with valuable information on a range of colour therapies and on human aura, drawing from her long experience as a healer and workshop conductor, as well as from her firsthand knowledge as a clairvoyant. But what makes this book so entertaining is the fact that it gives us plenty of information and insight on colours in almost every area of life. Collins advises us on how to enhance our personal appearance through the use of colour in our hair, clothes, make-up. She helps us create the right atmosphere in every room of our house (e.g., what colours encourage a sense of organic earthiness in the kitchen or a healthy self-esteem in the child's bedroom?), and in the garden. She tells us about the colour vibrations of food (providing us with a selection of colourful recipes), and those of music, dance, and singing. The book also includes a variety of colour exercises to promote creative thinking, inner knowing and self-improvement, and a very useful colour chart. An enjoyable book, with lots of simple and practical information. (A. C.)

Sometimes visionary fiction is all about the message and not about the story. It's refreshing when you can learn something and be entertained simultaneously. You'll find both a message and a story here at the Celestial Bar. Digger is a musician on mission. Tapped out of nowhere to audition his compositions for a movie soundtrack, he soothes his nerves by practicing meditation before the big event. Only this isn't your run of the mill meditation experience. Instead of seeing flashes of light or centering himself in a feeling of peace, Digger is chased by a faceless man into the Celestial Bar, a funky food and spirits establishment catering to the needs of those wishing to evolve. Here he meets several guides and teachers who feed him more than a burger and fries. Digger begins to learn about balancing his physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual selves while obtaining an awareness of his life and its challenges on a level he never dreamed existed. This novel is a thoroughly enjoyable, enlightening experience regardless of where you stand on the path. Grab a cup of tea and settle in for a quick read and a fun time in the safety of the Celestial Bar. (S.B.)

In this book, Dr. Gloria Brame introduces the curious to the pleasures and pains of adding a twist to your love making. If your answers to the quiz at the beginning of the book indicate that you're "Kink Challenged," even though you become aroused every time you think about being tied up and caressed with a feather, perhaps bringing God/dess into the bedroom can help. Dr. Brame points out that one of the reasons someone may only fantasize about kink, but never act on it is because of religious and/or moral beliefs. To help alleviate that pressure, Brame includes a section called "Talking Points on Sex and God," where she encourages those who are curious to explore their religious and moral apprehensions in a loving and spiritual way with their partners. Brame focuses much of the book on respect for yourself and your partner. In a funny and honest conversational style, she unravels the mysteries of world of kinky. For those of you inquiring minds with a desire to know anything and everything kink but are afraid to ask, this is the book for you! (S.B.)
