Pianosa Island (Tuscan Archipelago)

Pianosa means "having even surface". In facts its max. height is equal to about 27 meters. This Island has been seat of a Penal Colony for severe punishments. Now it belongs to the Tuscan Archipelago Marine Park but its final destiny is not yet known. The only sure thing so far is that all the cats living in the Island, being abandoned, starved to death. :-( Pianosa can be visited: particularly interesting are the christian catacombs. Overnight stay and scuba-diving are prohibited.
