Becoming an actor in Italy - How do
you do it ?
Above: Eric |
Start with a School
I really think that if you're going to be an actor you have to start on the right foot, and that's with a school. Not any school, one with a good name, prestige and a record.
We can sit speaking for hours about those fantastic alternative courses which reveal to you the mechanisms of letting off energy by running around half-dressed and stamping your feet on the ground, or how, with a stranger, to touch one-another or rub yourselves together in the quest of finding harmony and equilibrium . But in the end the final truth remains, most directors will only consider working with graduates from a few chosen schools.
If you're lucky
and your "bravura" gets you through all the different interviews and tests,
you start the courses, which will take up every second of your time.
I've seen
a lot of friends assuming an attitude of protest during the courses. I
think it's the worst way of living the Dramatic Arts Academy. I say "living"
because you really do live it.
There's a
long career ahead of you in which you can do things how and why you want
to. It's much more fruitful if the process of opposition starts later.
When you live
the Academy to the full it's difficult to forget everything you've learned
and it all comes in useful in creating your very own, singular, acting
life.
Even more,
Academies follow their students after they have graduated and often
bring work to you without asking for a "cut" of your earnings. What could
be better than that !
Good luck,
or rather, break a leg !
