It is one of the
most important towns
in the area of the
Chianti, built on
a hill dominating
the Arbia, Elsa
and Pesa valleys.
Castellina in Chianti
preserves its medieval
character in the
town wall and in
the castle. The
castle, restored
in 1927, now is
the seat of the
Commune and of an
exhibition room.
The parish church,
rebuilt in Romanesque
style after the
last war, keeps
a fresco of the
Madonna and Child
by Lorenzo di Bicci
(1373-1452). Around
Castellina in Chianti,
in the direction
of Radda in Chianti,
we recommend a visit
to the Etruscan
tomb of Montecalvario
surrounded by pine
trees.
