Maria Korporal

The artist was born June 1, 1962 in Sliedrecht in the Netherlands. She studied at the St. Joost Academy of Fine Arts in Breda and after graduating in 1986 she moved to Rome to dedicate herself entirely to her favorite arts: painting and graphics. In June 1988 she moved to the very small, quiet medieval town of Sant'Oreste which is situated halfway up the Soratte Mountain, in the extreme north part of the province of Rome and which provided her with a wellcome change from the Italian capital. Until September 1989 she worked on the project "The Song of the Earth".

Since the spring of 1989 Maria Korporal has worked for the small publishing house Apeiron, doing its lay-out and design work. In this stimulating environment she began creating livres d'artiste. In the beginning of the 90's she produced Satori Soractis and Contrapuncti,  two artist's books made of etchings. She has also done an interesting series of paintings inspired by ancient oriental poetry.

Since the second half of the 90's Maria Korporal has moved to the use of more modern techniques, like photography and computers, and her recent production ows a lot to a strong involvement with contemporary arts and literature.

Her latest works are visible on the website www.mariakorporal.com.
