biographical information

I studied molecular biology at the Biozentrum of the University of Basel, Switzerland. In 1996 I obtained the degree in neurobiology with a thesis on the "Development of the Mushroom Bodies of Drosophila melanogaster". In 1997 I received a Training and Mobility of Researchers Grant of the European Community and the Swiss National Science Foundation. In 2004 I obtained the PhD degree (Dr. sc. Nat.) from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, with a thesis entitled “Language Acquisition and Processing – Hierarchically Organized Cognitive Processes”.

In 2003 I became a tenure-track research fellow at the San Raffaele Scientific Institute, and in 2006, I was confirmed as a tenured full-time research fellow.

Since the academic year 2005-2006, I have been a contract professor at the Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, where I taught advanced courses in “Cognitive neuropsychology”, “Neurobiology of memory”, “Neurobiology of language”, “Neuropsychology of language”, “Language development and disorders”, and “Experimental psychology: neuroimaging methods”. I have been visiting Professor at Edinburgh University, U.K., for the MSc in Human Cognitive Neuropsychology, in the academic years 2007-2008 and 2008-2009, and visiting Professor at Catholic University of Milan, Italy, for the MSc in Neuropsychology: diagnosis, assessment, rehabilitation, since the academic year 2010-2011.
