The Cantù Lace Biennial, after the great succes of the past editions, is at present one of the most important lace exhibits in Italy. The 6th edition was devoted to a very interesting theme: laces in clothes, for women and men. So, a lot of ancient pieces were shown, from bonnets to shawls, to lingerie, to napkin, to christening robes, most of them coming from private collections...

The present and the future was the main goal of the International bobbin lace pattern Competition, of course devoted to clothes and/or their accessories. The Competition was divided, as usual, into two sections, "Tradition" and "Innovation". The winning projects (one gold and four silver medals), as well as all the other projects accepted, were all shown in the Biennial.

Else, a particular stage took place under the guide of a well known artist: how to design lace patterns using only folded paper and scissors.

The catalogue, very well done as the managing Committee always did, can be purchased on-line.

The town of Cantù got dressed for the occasion: lots of shops showed lace and lace-related items in their windows, lace sellers stands and lacemakers from the different lace schools, with lace demonstrations, took also part in the event.
