Tatting Lace

Back to Techniques

Tatting Lace, also known as frivolité, is a particular lace worke with linen or cotton thread and one or two special instruments called shuttles. Shuttles can be done in different  materials (wood, plastic, aluminium, etc.) and can have a very small crochet on one side, but their shape is always the same.

The basic tatting point is the knot, which is done moving the shuttles. a chain of knots can create rings or lines that give life to the design. Very often some picots are added, in particular where two pieces are sewn together.

As it is so easy to learn and the shuttles are so small, it's a kind of work that can be done almost everywhere, and this is one of the main reasons of it success.
